Turbo Charging b5 dohc
Turbo Charging b5 dohc
good day all, i'm a newbie on this site, i'm doing a modification and am seeking your advice and help.
i have the b5 dohc engine which i want to boost, but i am wondering if 8psi is too much. i want to boost it with out modifying the stock internals.
also does anybody know where i can get a complete turbo kit (with the manifold)?

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
the 1.6... yes
1.5.. not that I know of
There is a j-spec turbo out there, I think it's a b6 tho.

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
isn't the b5 a great engine to turbo charge?
is it possible to use the turbo kit for the b6t on it.

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
My guess is not many people will know how well the b5 motor takes to turbocharging, as most members are from North America ( USA & Canada), and the 1.5l b5 was not an engine choice here.
I can tell you my stock 1.6L SOHC b6 ran for years at 9psi with stock internals.

B5 is suppose to be a very strong engine.

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
psi may not be the correct term here. What turbo would you use? It should handle 8 psi on a smaller turbo.

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
I think people need to stop thinking of terms of psi and look at the specs of the turbo, 8psi on a T3/T4 is not the same as 8psi on a small T25. The key thing is proper tuning of ignition timing and fuel, I have a stock engine and have run up to 14psi on occasion.

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
the 1.6L is a overboared version of the 1.5 which all derived from a 1.3L in the 80's. so all inturnal parts should be the same. manifolds might not be however.

Re: Turbo Charging b5 dohc
Manifolds are the same, you can use the GTX manifold on the 1.5 DOHC since guys here in Barbados have done it on the Mazda Lantis with the 1500cc engine. Actually most of the parts between the 1500cc and 1600cc Mazda engines are identical.
