LSD for klze?

Post by CrimsonReign1 »

im going to try and get a klze with a tranny this summer but i want limited slip. i have no experience in trannys whatsoever so i was basically wondering if you can convert a regular klze tranny to have limited slip or do you have to buy one with it in already or whats the deal?

(if it helps, i was gonna order from tigerjapanese.com)

any advice is appriciated, thanks

There are factory LSD trans from Japan, but the large majority of them use a different spline count, and it's almost impossible to find the inner CV to make a custom axle.

The next option would be the LSD from a MazdaSpeed Protege, but it only works in 4.11:1 trans, so either from the Mx-6 or 626, or put in the gear from an Escort ZX-2 SR.

There is currently a groupbuy for an Mfactory LSD

Last and best option would be the Quaife, it's not cheap.

from what I've read the MFactory will be comparable to the Quaife... if not better...

Original thread is quite long: http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showth ... 26&page=71" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

New thread: http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42012" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The LSD's have completed testing :D not sure if you can get in on the group buy but I'm sure they will be for sale (just have to pay a little more).

Somewhat related...throwing the price factor completely out of the equation, between the MFactory one and the Quaife, which LSD would be better overall?

the price point on the MFactory lsd is what led me to set up the group buy with them initially. i already had a quaife in my car, so i set this up purely for the rest of you guys :)

i've seen/installed/driven a quaife, and i've seen/installed (to test fit) the MFactory prototypes. the quality of the machine work on the MFactory diffs was superb... definitely on par with quaife. since the design is essentially the same, the torque biasing properties should be nearly indistinguishable. there are 900hp hondas running mfactory diffs, with the same design as the one for our cars.

another nice thing is that the MFactory lsd comes with its own application-specific bolts, unlike the quaife for which you need to buy a $200 nut/stud kit from ARP. lastly, in order to clear the quaife's ARP fasteners, you need to take a die grinder to your shifter gate. not so with the mfactory... i worked with them to make sure that the bolts clear everything 100%
