KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
Hi guys,
I have a MX-3 with KL-ZE (85.000km).
Last year it runs perfekt, does not burn any oil.
Over winter it stands still for three month.
Now, it burns oil. Every time, when I drive more than 10 seconds with motor braking it smokes light blue out of the exhaust.
I guess this could be the valve stem seals.
What are your experiences....could this seals get hard over stand still in winter?
Thanks for answering!
EDIT!!!
I think I described the problem in my first post a little bit wrong.
The engine does NOT smoke under load.
It smokes for 1-2 seconds when I press the gas pedal after a period of min. 10 seconds of motor braking.

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
Surprised they'd delapidate that quickly. Was it ran at all over those months? Never experienced anything like that with my k engines, I'm sure someone will have experience otherwise though.

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
Smoke during engine braking makes me think piston rings. Leaking valve stem seals will smoke most when the engine's cold, RPM and load doesn't really affect it. Maybe some oil rings got stuck, try running some seafoam through a vacuum line.

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
No, it does not smoke during motor braking.
It smokes for about 1-2 seconds when I push the gas pedal directly AFTER motor braking.
When starting the engine it does not smoke.
I drove the car from July 2008 till November 2008. It does not brun any oil. I restartet it in March 2009. Since that date it burns oil![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
What do ou mean with:
"try running some seafoam through a vacuum line"
Two weeks ago I made an engine flush an filled up new oil and filter. But this does not effect anything.

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
run diesel oil 15 40. It's time!! There comes a time in every motors life when it either needs a rebuild or diesel oil. and does it blow smoke every time you step on the gas?
Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
MX3-tom my ZE is smoking and I am changing it out under warranty. Anyways, I notice that I get a fouled spark plug in the No.4 piston. I can see oil on top of that piston when I shine a light down there and the spark plug gets very oily.
Check your spark plugs, see if any are wet with oil on the tips.

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
It could also means that during that time your engine is running rich and it's having blow by.
Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
How could it run rich in time of motor braking?
I'll check the spark plugs today too, when we make the compression test.

The engine ran max. 85.000km.![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
could have gummed up oil control rings maybe just one or to, If all else fails put a 1/2 quart of diesel in your oil start the car run it for 5 min (AT IDLE DO NOT REV) drain oil and put in thicker oil. that will clean any s--- out of the internals.MX-3-Tom wrote:How could it run rich in time of motor braking?![]()

800km ago I did aan engine flush with Kent engine flush.
But it does not effect anything.![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
sounds like its time for a rebuild.
Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
But i can't understand this....the engine has 85.000km.
Before the winter it runs perfectl, without any oil consuption.
But now, after the winter it burns oil.![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
What could be changed over the cold winter stand still?
I rather think about hardened valve stem seals, or a blocked/broken ventilation system.

Re: KLZE: blue smoke after motor braking
Well it’s definitely not the valve stem seals. They do not contribute to burning oil under load as has already been stated. When loaded the only way oil can get into the combustion chamber is through the head gasket or past the rings. The rings may not be shot, however it is possible for the oil control rings to become stuck in their grooves. So that will allow more oil than normal to remain on the walls of the cylinders as the piston moves down and that oil will be burned during combustion.
Do the Seafoam engine flush and then change the oil and you may see an improvement in the condition. You may also have to accept that the K family of engines do tend to burn some oil. It’s find of part of the deal. If it’s not really bad I would say it’s pretty normal.
