I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

usually a 4 cylinder is about 16-18inches of vacuum at idle, should be steady and not drop or move around too much. and should drop suddenly when you snap the throttle open to about 2-1inches and should shoot back up passed 16inches when you close the throttle like on deceleration. i mean you could have a leak after the MAF/VAF sensor and lets in metered air and wont have enough fuel to compensate.

It sounds like the initial drop off is because of the larger intake, I think people usually go for 2.5" tubing for 4 cyls. I had a similar issue when I made a short ram intake on my 323 a while ago and I just advanced the timing a bit on the distributor and adjusted the idle screw so that I was up about 200-300rpms from stock and the problem disappeared. This is caused by the vaf because the door is closed over at idle and the only air is getting through the bypass built into it and once you hit the throttle, door opens due to no leaks and proper vaccuum, but there isnt enough volume of air inside to fill the space and the car lags for a moment.
