Can a ZE Auto Tranny be used on a K8??

Post by Daninski »

I've been told that the KLZE auto tranny will work in my MX6 soooo if that's the case why can't it be used on the K8? A lot of people buy the ZE and the Distributors pull the auto tranny off of them so I know there's auto trannys out there. Can people with the sh*tty k8 auto use the ZE auto?

I believe this is a yes but the axles are different (spline count IIRC) So you'd hafta swap out the hubs, get custom axles or pull the tranny apart and switch the whatchamacallit

Why would you need the ECU? Are the gears that different? I figured you could either plug the mx3 controller into the tranny or if it didn't fit, just splice the wires. I thought the ECU worked off RPMs, so that a tranny change wouldn't matter, per say.

There is an axel issue but I'd need to pull up some past posts to nail that one. But the big issue is fitment. If that's god then asking for the axels would be part of the purchase process. I'll search this and respond.

Fieromx3 tried it with no luck, but you'd have to ask him why, that I don't remember.

Someone may need to correct me, but I think the KL's control the trans with their ECU, while the Mx-3's uses a seperate unit, or was it the other way around?

I believe on all accounts it won't work, but PM Duncan, he'll know

^^^ That's what I was talking about. The ZE has a separate ECU for the Auto trans...which would undoubtedly tie into the engine ECU as well. I'm sure it could be done but it would be electronically nightmarish.

I also tryed it. It bolts in our cars fine with the proper mounts but the main issue is wiring. you will need a complete body and motor/tranny harness from a pgt,mx6,626,millenia to get the wiring right plus the tranny ecm. so only auto tranny that will work in the mx3 is the factory one. Not to mention the auto k8 tranny is weak as hell and will not last long so just swap to 5spd like every one else.
