Im interested to see how Caprica will turn out - I know the writers are totally engrossed in the BSG world, I don't think they'd intentionally screw it up unless it was "the search for more money!"

I did like the ending, it is very difficult to tie up a drama such as Battlestar Galactica, but I still think the writers had some serious flaws - 150,000 years? Really? IF they had language and writing, there is NO possible way it would take this long to develop a modern society unless they kept getting killed off - and they would have had to breed w/ the natives anyway.

Also, if they really wanted to "break the cycle" they would have to leave some clue of past mistakes. The previous society had it, but it was in the form of religion, which is not the best form of history recording.

I think 150,000 years is plenty of time.. think back to 100 years ago.. hell 1000 years ago.. then think of today.

Your grandpa didnt have an iphone, and hes grandfather was around before they were even invented.

Dont forget they got rid of all their technology and started from scratch. They went back to their roots. Heck..Gias was the smartest one of em all....and he started to "cultivate"!

I'm saying 150,000 is TOO long. I know they got rid of all technology - but w/ written and spoken language, and the fact that the natives had weapons w/ at least stone, going from our own history, we came out of the stone age around 6000BC, right? So, 8000 years to develop language society. 150,000 years is REALLY long! Agriculture started around 10,000 years ago in our time! Not 150,000!

That's all I'm saying - if the writers wanted to tie it into our society like they did, they could have at LEAST made it more real. Heck, given 150,000 years I bet apes will have language!

/End rant!

I don't know anything about any of this, but:

Who says WE are the definition of modern? We don't have ALL of the cool technology yet. Consumer artificial intelligence, consumer aircraft, teleportation... all of the cool sci fi stuff. All of the stuff Asimov, Herbert, and all the other great writers invented...

Ryan - all that stuff was written less than a hundred years ago

We're on the verge of big breakthroughs - I can feel it. We haven't had anything major in some time, whether a war sparks it or another generation of geniuses emerges is yet to be seen. Computing will go nano, there is already a device built that can affect "apparent gravity" within its area and as long as there are private investors/researchers who are more interested in space travel than our governments we will get there eventually.

Seriously, look at how far we've come in 200 years

Cars
Planes (HUGE)
Computers
Printing
Internet
Medicine

Yes it is true that alot of what sci-fi authors has written has come to pass, and other great scientists developed plans centuries before their time (Da Vinci's helicopter and submarine?)

Also what do you mean by consumer aircraft? You can build/buy your own personal airplane or helicopter. In my eyes, teleportation of objects is possible, but not living creatures. Why? We still don't understand the human consciousness. You may be able to transfer the body, but not the mind. We need to know our own bodies better before we can do things like this. (Why are some people capable of astro-projection while others are not? There are many studies on the human consciousness that are inconclusive.)

*EDIT - the way I see teleportation is not how they describe it in movies or books, but rather as a "copying" device. Instead of trying to send an object through space, it would be much easier to just map the structure and re-assemble it elsewhere, leaving multiple copies of it. Sending an object through space instantaneously would require a much greater understanding of our universe. Even in BSG they didn't have teleportation. In my eyes, the only thing they touched on in BSG that we can't explain in today's society is the FTL drives - and there was a reason they didn't even try to explain them

In the "Last Frakkin Special" the writers said they know they can't make everyone happy and it will be picked apart by people, but they did the best possible senario they could think of to sum up 5 years of questions in 2 hrs ;)

Just to give you the idea of technology.. think of the pilgrims.. they came to the US almost 517 years ago on boats. Hell the indians now have casinos lol.
