Post by hgallegos915 »

So.. ok I have everything ready EXCEPT the power steering belt(water pump)

I removed the pump, cut the belt so that I can see how short of another belt I can get... but How do I tension the belt? The idler pulley doesnt reach.. how did you all did it?

I got tired of the power steering leaks , and its better for launching. less stress on engine.

Power steering leaks was the main reason. I bought new pump, replaced rack, lines and it still leaked.. figures..

I saw a thread on CP where a guy ZE'd something and gutted the pump but left the body and the tensioner intact. So the pump was just another idler pulley basically.

That's a common practice as well, but it's so easy to completely remove the pump I'm not sure why people still do that.

hppwn that was a GREAT write up.. it should be stickied.

I removed the power steering pump completely.

I used the 29.5 inch belt that you spoke off, I used the stock idler pulley and tensioned the belt backwards to stock form and it works great!!

the car is AMAZINGLY QUIET.. Im so surprised on how much noice the power steering pulley makes.

I removed the power steering lines, everything that has to do with power steering.

Im sure theres a bit of weight reduction there, since the stock steering rack is HEAVY compared to the manual one, and the strain on engine due to power steering.

before when I would turn all the way, the engine would idle down, now it doesnt. Sweet!
