Help SuperK with Distributorless Ignition?

Post by SuperK »

So I was out shopping today, doing a bit of window shopping, a bit of pleasure perusing...

Oh, yes, I shop at junkyards...

and I came across this:

I wasn't aware that the 626 KL had a DIS and this interests me greatly!

I can get the DIS from the junkers for $75 dollars.

I understand I'm jumping into the dark here, has anyone attempted the swap?

The DIS has a CAS mounted on the bracket. It's a 4-wire plug to the DIS, and a two-wire to the CAS.

I'm currently doing some research on this, however if anyone has any information to share, I do need it.

For the DIS you will need three firing channels from the ECU - the mx3 ECU only has one - so you will have to do some complex magicery to turn one into three. Or swap the 626 ECU and the harness....

Also Megasquirt does DIS (wasted spark) very well.....

I am running a KL ZE and a KL 36 ECU. I was talking to pat and he mentioned the signal from the ECU didn't have to be modified. Correct me if I am wrong.

The newer 626es (I think '97+?) have coilpacks.
What I'd like to know (in conjunction with your query), is if these coilpacks can be driven with an MSD 6A.

nope. the msd 6a just makes the signal going to the coil stronger. It only has one channel. Megasquirt is pretty much the only way to amke this work on mx3's

Ooops. My question wasn't complete.. I meant; Assuming I have MSnS running the ciolpacks properly, could I use the MSD to step it up?

instead of trying to make it stronger with add-ons i'd just buy a msd or accell 6 tower coilpack,
