Which tires to buy

Post by Daninski »

Ok I need to replace all the tires on my new/used MX-6, it's the same size as the MX-3 takes so. I was offered Goodyear Tripletreds $135 plus tax installed. He was going to substitute the 205/55R15 for 195/60R15. They're just a little taller bout 1/4 inch and about the same width with the new cool looking tread pattern. Lots of tires out there but I need a combination of performace and seasonal. Any comments

135 each tire? Thats a good price. I got mine for closer to 150+ a tire in the same size. I don't really have any complaints. I use them all season long, have never gotten stuck in the snow (I live in upstate NY) and they handle great on wet roads. When going through big puddles, they do have a tendency to pull the car a little to one side or the other, but they have never hydroplaned for me, even when I was testing them in a parking lot for their effectiveness - they do what they advertise! I have not taken them to a track or anything, but I like to drive spirited. So far after 1.5 years the tires are in great shape. I've only put like 10k miles on the car, and tires hardly look worn. Fronts are more worn than the rears (just rotated them though) but there is still plenty of tread left. Not the quietest tire, but not too loud either.

They're pretty much rated the best all season tire out there. I like em.

I think he's looking for an all season tire, not a summer tire...

Ya, I'm happy with them so far. This will be my 2nd winter with them, first winter on my ZE, so we will see how they do with the GIANT power increase from my RS...lol.

Never gotten stuck, but I know how to "rock" myself out of parking spots when I need. Tires never squeal for me in normal driving, I've only had them screaming a few times and that was fun in parking lots :) I consistently take off ramps at 2x+ the rated speed and never lose grip (I do have GC's w/ ZX2 struts) with 195's on 15x7 rims. No strut bars on my ZE and my bushings are 17 years old...tires seem to grip well enough! I cannot compare them to summer performance tires, but then again, you are looking for all weather tires.

Ha, I'm a wimp. I park my ZE for the winter. I think the MX-3 is an excellant case of a car that needs snow tires. It's too light to bite but doing tricks in the snow is a breeze.

I'd love to put snows on, but don't have the money to throw around. Stock tires? Who puts stock tires on a 16 yr old car!

I think the mx3 is light enough that it sits on top of the snow, kinda like snowshoes LOL. Thats the only way I can make sense of the deep snow I've driven through!
