I have a 1994 MX-3 V6 GS rear sub-frame that I am going to put onto my 1994 Mazda 323. The MX-3 sub-frame looks like it was bolted to the rusty end of the titanic. The lateral links are nasty looking and the bushings are cooked. Altrom sells inexpensive new MX-3 trailing arms complete. They also sell new inexpensive 323 lateral links complete. My questions:
Can I use the MX-3 rear sub frame (22)
with MX-3 trailing arms(21)
MX-3 disc brake hubs, but use 323 lateral links?? (16) & (17) This way everything is new, cheap and easy???
no, no, and no. too many minute differences in parts. including the rear sway bar.
if you really want disc brakes for the back just swap the entire sub frame and all thats attatched, you're going to need to change the proportioning valve up front on the fire wall, and ebrake cables (all 3 of them). that would be your easiest swap. mind you though, its been proven that drums actually brake better than disc brakes... they're downfall is that they heat up a lot. but unless your slamming the brakes frequently because your doing some hardcore autoxing, there's no real point for the swap unless for asthetic purposes.
i should know, i contemplated the swap for my 323 a long time ago.
i've done way too much research on my mx-323. lol back in 05 for a time being is was an mx-623 frankenstein (kl-de swap)
but now im back to a 1.6 but the me (16v) not the 8, rebuilt for turbo setup 1.2 bar pressure buildup. to be bolted on when warm weather comes back. my engine brake in time exceeded the remnants of warm weather for this year.
I am fairly sure that the length of the lateral links is different. But I bet that the bushings are very close to the same. I have seen the comparison between EGT and MX-3 Lateral links and they are identical except for the overall length...which is less than an inch different. The 323 and Protege can't be too far off from that.
