Oil pressure sender problem

Post by SstennizZ »

I hope somebody here can help me.
I installed some gauges today, oil temp and pressure.
The temperature one works fine, but the pressure gauge jumps to maximum as soon as I start the engine. With the ignition on, but no running engine it drops to 0 again..
Is the sender broken or am I doing something wrong?

does it jump all the way up and stay there or gradually comes back down?

did you get right sender unit to work with gauge cause there's 2 different sending units, depending on which gauge you use.

It came with the gauge. Has one wire to the gauge and one to the mass of the car. It looked the same as the installation manual.

Not quite like mine:

I was refering to the sender. The sender has one connection to the mass of the car and one to the gauge.

Nope, becouse I did all that..
What I don't get is why it gives 0 as output when the engine is off and max when it's on. The only thing connected to the gauge system is the 12v of the ignition.. Whether the engine is on or off shouldn't make a difference to that wire, so my guess is that the sender is broke.

that's weird, you should have one wire from the sending unit.

Should have? On my previous car I had a pressure gauge too, and that sender had two wires as well. One ground and one to the gauge..

Check your grounds and stuff too. If the signal wire is grounding out (probably where it passes through the fire wall) It could cause the problem you are experiencing.
