Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
Hey guys im new to the MX3 community and had been trying to research stuff about the motor which im not fimilar with because im use to KL motors back when i owned Probe GT's. But i was wondering what turbo manifold i would have to get since the car i bought was built for boost but im not sure which manifold i need to get. Its a 93 MX3 1.6L engine i believe there is a picture of my motor in the picture forums if that helps. If someone would be kind enough to explain the motor and how it gets turbocharged ill gladly appriciate it.

Re: Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
Just as a heads up, the 1.6L out of the 92-93 is junk. It only has 88hp. Turbo wont do you any good, you might reach 100 hp, lol. Common swap is a BP (tons of info about it in search) There's also a good amount of aftermarket support for those motors as well.
If you're dead set on turboing the 1.6, there might be someone somewhere that still has the turbo manifold for it back when it was made. I don't know much about turboing cars so, that's all the help I can be to you.

Re: Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
The thing is im kinda tight on money and pay rent and work part time until i get the car taged then gonna work full time here. I was thinking of doing the KL swap either DE or ZE because the shop here has done 1.6 to 2.5 swaps for mx3's. And i actually have performance stuff here at my house right now for it. But i would really like to at least give it alittle more power with turbo maybe to around 150hp ish, so i can move alittle if need be. The motor im sure has more than 88hp since its built but im not sure how much it has.Savin wrote:Just as a heads up, the 1.6L out of the 92-93 is junk. It only has 88hp. Re: Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
ya, it is no problem turbo the b6...150hp is a realistic goal too....I am sure some one will chime in with a turbo manifold soon.

Re: Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
To be honest, I don't think that the motor being 'built' means anything. Its highly unlikely that it has more than the stock 88 hp unless there has been customs parts, like custom aggesive cam, etc. With the 1.6, the 'built' could mean that it has been rebuilt and is more capable to withstand the abuse of boost.
Anyway, with the cost it would take to boost that motor and make it reach the desired 150 hp, it would be much cheaper to get a BP and mildly boost that. (cheaper more readily avalible parts)
Whatever you decide to do, keeps us informed. Don't let me stop you from doing what you want to do. As long as you're happy with the end result, that's all that matters.
Se7en, with the kit for the sohc, what was the power output the turbo setup ? I cannot recall the total gain. I didn't think it increased the hp to that.

Re: Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
As far as I can remember, JWT ran in the 11's with his b6 turbo setup, and a stock bottom end at 25 lbs of boost....

He did that on the SOHC b6? and not the DOHC?! Wow, I'm very impressed.se7en wrote:As far as I can remember, JWT ran in the 11's with his b6 turbo setup, and a stock bottom end at 25 lbs of boost....
The only boosted B6's i've seen are the DOHC.

Re: Turbo Manifold for 93 MX3 Question
I have the first prototype turbo manifold for the B6-me. (fm RM yeah I know) on my lil project sohc turbo.
I haven't put to much effort into it since i have been working on my other mx-3.
I won't sell it so no point in asking.
the only thing u can do is get one custom made.
as far as what the sohc can make in power no one knows cause no have ever really tried and these that i've seen did.. they lack in the EMS department. (all im going to say about that)
u said it ur self ur tight on cash. souping up a mazda isn't cheap.
coming from both a turbo SOHC AND A BP..
ur better off with a BP swap N/A than u are if u turbo a SOHC..
