Project Jay-Spec 323 KLZE

Post by IMACHU2 »

Just bought a 94 323 SE as the base of my new project car. I plan to use
MX-3 front and rear sub frames, engine and chassis wiring harness' and a curved necked KLZE.

The car wash seemed like the best place to start.
Image

It looked a little better after.

The engine compartment was a little yucky! I am saving the 1.6L for my other 323 so I hosed it down also.
I used "Revive" engine degreaser. It is the best degreaser I have ever used.

Before:

After:

Then I pulled the interior. (I plan to use an MX-3 chassis harness)
Image

I actually power washed the inside of the car!! I figured if it fried the wiring, it would not be a big deal. (I am using a MX-3 wiring harness engine and interior so if it fried, I was going to call a tow truck). People at the car was stared in disbelief :) I drove the car to the car wash, un-bolted the drivers seat, hosed it out, bolted the seat back in and drove it home! LOL

Then I took the dash out.
Image

After that I took out the engine.

That was day one! Somehow I think the project will slow down a little from this point on. Well at least until I buy a MX-3 parts car. Next round I am going to knock the rear sub frame out and paint the top and bottom of the floor and the engine compartment. I have to fix a little rust in the passenger rear inner fender also. I screwed-up the sub frame to rad support nutserts, so I got to somehow fix those too. There was some kinda metal splash shield inner fender type deals under the air box that must of been retaining water because they are dust?! Cold air via a rust hole?! I will have to have a closer look.

Although it will be 75% MX-3 when it is done it will still be a 323. "Must be a MX-3". :D

2. Do NOT post any other vehicle besides an MX-3 or related cars (B series and K series engines only).
That "or related cars" is tossed in there too! :D

hey, i dont go on club proto very much so i will help you on this site. for a rad i just picked up a 96? civic hb one (the devil). i have not tried it yet due to i ripped the whole car apart (again) to repaint it. the civic one is only about 16" wide. the problem was with the one i used the first time was the headers were hitting it and i didnt want it to get crushed when shifting gears, other problem was the coolant lines were in bad spots. when i gutted my 323 the only thing besides the body that i reused were the fuel lines, gas tank and heater core. everything else came from my 93 gs se (i know, poor se..it went to the crusher). front and rear sub frame, all wiring, dash, cluster, seats...everything. i will see if any pictures got saved from my last computer when it crashed, dont know what made it from the old hard drive. i should be repainting the 323 here in about 2-3weeks if i have time. if you have any questions just hit me up.

well this is the only photo left except a shot of the gutted shell. pretty much a full mx3 interior, seats sit way low for me, im only 5'6" on a good day. abit of work, the dash pad has a large gap that i will need to fix. this pic is from about a year ago when i first swapped everything over.

also had to cut the door handles so they could close with the mx3 dash. got a mirage halo swap half done as well as a fiberglass subbox. plus the 2 hole front bumper. have a set of civic side skirts that i was thinking of modding. hope to pick up a gtr rear bumper next spring.

Yeah that MX-3 dash is a pain to put in to a 323 , 1st Gen protege or Escort. When I tried to put the dash into my 91 Pro LX I got like 4 bolts to line up perfect and 2 bolts where a little off and the rest weren't even close. I got it in there but didn't like how the fit was at the windshield and ripped it back out. Full center console , seats , carpet , glove box and lower dash plastics look dang good in a protege I might add. Come to think of it I still have a whole shed full of MX-3 parts.

Why I ask why, why do people do these things? Ambition combined with piss and vinegar can be a dangerous thing. lol Good luck. I gotta watch this thread. That car when completed will be a 'sleeper' for sure. Take out Life Insurance.
