RHD MX-3...Anyone else going to pick one up?

Post by Steve J-SPEC »

Just thought I'd see if anyone would want an actual JDM mx-3...they have not been available for import until recently. I have placed an order! :D

Thoughts?

I know people have had mixed feelings about business with tiger japanese but I have had multiple good outcomes with them and it persuaded me to ask if/when they were going to start bringing over our cars. I will be going to look at the first one they bring in early in the new year. The price is fairly high, but worth every penny considering the rust-free body.

I was told by this guy...

http://www.japaneseusedcar.ca/?gclid=CN ... iQodlhQuEA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That I could have one on the ground for $4000-5000CDN. I was very specific with the options and features I wanted and he said it would take a few months to find the car I wanted, but that they are not very desirable there so it would not be too expensive.

What do you consider expensive?

Sounds good, another question. Is it legal to drive in the US/Canada with a RHD car?

In Ontario, the requirements is that the car must have a sign, in contrast to the body colour, at least 55mm in lettering height, that states that it is a right-hand drive vehicle.

The more important thing is, you mean we can now get actual striaght neck KL-ZEs installed? Without hacking at the mounts? Awesome...

Maybe I am missing something here...

Isn't it legal everywhere in Canada and the US? There are RHD all over the place here in BC and I know Alberta has a ton as well. The only issues RHD cars have is that the headlights are biased to the wrong side, but I am sure that you would not need to worry about that in a mx3 as they do not have projectors. My JDM lights don't bother anyone.

This is almost identical to the price I was given. Relatively good considering what a low mileage North American one sells for. No salt used in Japan = no rust. That’s all I really care about. It still has to be a K8 or better. Not too worried about options but power windows and a sun roof would be nice.

It is legal. They were trying to change the current legislature on this and increase the 15yr rule to 25. I don't believe this has happened yet. I will call the MTO and let everyone know.

If you read the highway safety act:

Vehicles with right hand drive

63. Every vehicle that is equipped with a right hand drive shall, unless it is equipped with a mechanical or electrical signal device as described in subsection 142 (6), have prominently displayed on the rear thereof, in bold face letters of not less than 50 millimetres in height and of a colour which is in contrast to that of the vehicle, the words,

“RIGHT HAND DRIVE VEHICLE”.

Requirements for signalling device

(6) A mechanical or electrical signal device shall clearly indicate the intention to turn, shall be visible and understandable during day-time and night-time from the front and from the rear of the vehicle for a distance of 30 metres, and shall be self-illuminated when used at any time from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 142 (6).

Basically what this reads is that if you car is not equipped with operating signal devices you would require the sticker. This is not the case with our cars. The sticker would not be required because all signals are in place.

It's completely legal as far as I know in all of Canada. I know and know people who have in Ontario, Quebec, B.C and Alberta. It's legal in the US, the only thing that's different is the import law, where we're allowed to import anything 15yrs old or older. In the US I think it's different expect in a state or two. I did see an R33 in Virginia, but that's pretty much the only RHD vehicle I've seen in the US. I think the process is getting it is that you must go through California first, but I may be completely off, but IN general I think it's 20-25years for their laws.

In Canada tho, I've seen many, many RHD vehicles. Skylines are a dime a dozen, FC's are cheap, FD's are popular, Supras and even our own J-Beef has a 300zx. I've seen many Toyota turbo diesel Landcruisers. They're legit and quite popular, but honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a RHD sticker on the windshield that is apparently required.

Ya, I've read they wanted to change the 15yr rule, but there's a group dedicated to fighting against it if I remember right.

I don't know if I'd ever get a RHD Mx-3. I'd like to get an FC in the near future at a track/drift car. I was actually looking recently if you can get a 2nd gen 626 hatch in diesel (apparently they came supercharged diesel) in 15yrs or older. One thing I'd really like to get would be either a 323 GTR or a Nissan Pulsar GTIR

if you live in western Canada check out importconcern.ca... they'll tell you what parts have been replaced, scratches and dents. They seem honest and the prices fair. I would probably guess that the cost for importing an MX is going to be pretty close to importing an FD. It would be cool though. Unlike the hundreds of skylines running around our city.

Yea, i've had my eye on importconcern.ca for years...they also have some nice stuff with what looks like a japanese carfax report but I can only imagine the amount added for shipping to t.o. I figure if the car looks good, everything mechanical I have replacements for. $4500 is the upper price tag for a decent north american one but i'm thinking a true J-spec would be even more unique.
