Hesitation, bucking, backfire

Post by sketch_hs »

Just picked up a 92 v6 auto for my wife.

First time working on this particular motor.

Okay it starts up and idles fine, and drive great if you are VERY light on the throttle. Now if you floor it or even go past 1/4 throttle it starts loosing power, wont rev or accelerate at all. More you push the pedal worse it is. Sometime it will backfire or pop.

Never dies...

Not sure what to check first. Was reading and found a lot about the distributor going bad... does this sound like a bad distributor or something else? The car has 159000 miles on it but has been well maintained by the look of things.

Thanks, can't wait to get this one on the road :)

I'm going to throw out a couple random guesses:

throttle position sensor?
poor spark?
bad timing?
bad vacuum lines (leaking)?

Had you been stumped another few hours, I was all over this one. When I bough an MX6 a while back, it had the exact same problem. Changed the plugs and it was golden

I've had the same thing only it was a plugged fuel filter. I've learned this is not an exact science. lol Good that you found an easy fix.
