Re: [wtb]mx3 in canada
Think about what you want first. This was my mistake when buying my car.
Do you want to go flunking fast? buy a GS with a shot motor for $500.
Do you want fuel economy? Get a RS (4 cyl) with a good motor. If you want to do any moderate modification, buy the SOHC (93hp) (1993 and before) because the 1994 and over RS(105hp?) 4 cyl) is a sucky project car, although slightly more powerful than the 93. The GS (v6, 130hp?) of any year is good performance wise. If you want lots more power, you can spend an extra ~$2000 for what these boys call the KLZE swap for ~200 hp.
So, buy a shot GS with a good body (500?) and drop in KLZE (literally) for ~$2500
Buy a nice RS for ~1000-2000
anyone else got input?
Oh yeah, and don't complain about not finding cars in Alberta, try living in Manitoba first!

Re: [wtb]mx3 in canada
Why only 92-94. My 95 is a nice unit and my 96 ZE has been a very dependable daily driver. 92-94 had disty coil problems and that nasty drivers window switch issue. The 96 being OBD2 is very easy to diagnose and the way I look at it, the newer the car the less rusty it might be.
Cheers

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: [wtb]mx3 in canada
the 94 4cyls are a bad place to start if you're a modifying man. v6 are good through and through, I believe.
If you pay more than 4g's for your car, you're either buying a riced out piece of shyte with a million useless expensive bolt ons, or lots of "custom" bodywork, or you're being robbed

Re: [wtb]mx3 in canada
Three weeks ago I found a 93 GS SE in Edmonton for 2200.00 with less than 200,000 km. It was a sweet deal but the guy wanted to sell to someone in Alberta for some reason. I bought one in Peterborough for 1600.00 not including air fare and hotels but it did a 2000km roadtrip without a hiccup. The body is fair, lots of parking lot dings, rear 1/4 panel rust and it is kinda pink but it is a great platform for a cheap thrill ride that is dependable and relatively cheap to maintain.
I found many good cars for around 4000.00 that had between 150-165 thousand km. There was also a sweet little Orange rs with a ton of recent work for 2000.00 in Calgary not long ago.
I'll find you one if you pay me the finders fee. 10% of the final price. I would have a collection of them if I could afford it.
For 4000 you can find a great car, try to buy as stock as possible in my opinion, they are well engineered right out of the box. Then you can choose the mods you want. If any.
One thing to check on higher mileage cars with manual transmission- push down on the shifter. If it gives and drops down into the shifter boot- don't buy it. Or drop 300 dollars off your offer. It is a pain if this bushing is worn out and the shifter dropsdown and hangs from the linkage. It will still shift but it is far from ideal.
JUst press on the top straight down in neutral and you may feel it move.
If you get a good one you won't regret it. I had an RS before and it was almost maintainance free for five years. When I bought it it had 175,000 on it and I sold it with 295000 for 500.00 and the guy who bought it is still driving it. I paid 4000.00 in 2001
Good Luck
