removing the transmission out of my car

Post by im2bad4ya »

So I've looked at the workshop manual and have taken all the steps to remove my transmission. Needless to say, all electrical connections are disconnected and all bolts have been removed, but the transmission is still attached to the engine. I've removed all the bolts from the underside on the passenger side. and the 4 main bolts (3 on the drivers side and 1 on the passenger side.) The only thing that is still attached to the transmission itself is the passenger side axle, but shouldn't the transmission just slide out or do i have to remove this axle from the transmission as well??....otherwise, I'm stuck. Have I missed something???

Tranny mounts? Maybe jsut give 'er a good WHAM with a rubber mallet, it could be gunked to the engine. Make sure you have it suspended.... but IDK about the axle... It woudl make sense that you would have to remove it, but I don't know personally.

front and rear tranny mounts and top side trans mount 2., both axles have to come out which means there are 2 bolts that hold ur strut in place that has to come off.

what a minute are u auto or standard..

Okay, so I was able to remove the transmission (there was a 14mm bolt right under the other bolt on the passenger side.) And to my disgust, the transmission will have to be replaced. Here are the pics:

if the only thing left attached to the tranny are the axles, the tranny will still be able to move a little bit, but you won't be able to get it fully out w/o the axles dismounted from tranny

I just got mine out the other day........it's harder than I thought, not much room in the engine bay to get it out of there once it was un-bolted.......I dropped mine down

Is that the metal "boot" (for lack of the correct term) for the driver side axle attached to the tranny below the hole in your pic ?????

I couldn't get it off either so I snipped the clamp off the rubber boot and covered it with a plastic bag to remove it and just removed the rest of the axle.......it was all I could do.....took me two days on the axle's........frustrating!!!!!!!!
