I really can't agree with the rims, but 290 hp isn't too shabby. Just as much as the SR-T right?

I don't know much about Kia. Who owns them? Who works with them? Are they crappy or okay vehicles? And that thing looks like a prototype instead of a road car. Nice, though.

Re: Have You Seen This?
IIRC, they made parts for other cars for years, and decided to just make entire vehicles.

Re: Have You Seen This?
They are crap. Just flimsy knock offs that are over priced. A few years back I saw a spectra5 hit a 3 foot pole and explode. It was hillarious because I was riding in my friends Protege 5 (of which the spectra is a knock off). We had always made fun of the spectra since it was such a blatant rip off, but now we have a genuine reason to bash it.Ryan wrote:I don't know much about Kia. Who owns them? Who works with them? More like they used parts. Almost all their engines were just rebrands from other companies.fowljesse wrote:IIRC, they made parts for other cars for years, and decided to just make entire vehicles.

Re: Have You Seen This?
The idea behind safety in vehicles, is that the car absorbs the inpact, mainly by exploding. Personally, I would rather have my car explode than stay rigid. 60-0 in 0.05 secconds is way more excrusiating than if my car explodes and takes 1 seccond to come to a halt. Its simple physics... Force = Mass x Acceleration. If A is smaller (more time to stop) then F is simaller. So, the more energy the car can take, in the form of destroyed parts and bent frames, the less you have to.They are crap. Just flimsy knock offs that are over priced. Re: Have You Seen This?
Sorry, but I had to add:
Kia and Hyundia are JUNK. Sorry if any of you own one.
The only thing that is good about them, is some of the cars used g-series tranny's.
I rebuild engines for a living, and the worst ones are the kia's and hyundia's.
Also, our shop car(RIO) just crested over the 100,000kms mark, and was we were advised to change the timing belt.
Wouldn't you know it, 4 days later, it snapped, and broke 8 exhaust valves, and cracked one cylinder. We had to laugh because the dealership said that they wouldn't warrenty it because we were told to change it.(We already had the appointment made to get it changed, it was the next day lol)
Funny thing is, after we put in a used autowrecker engine, we sold the remaining 3 pistons and rods to other people who had the same problem. Albet with less kms than we had.
Also, In the last two years, we have diagnosed 12 kia and hyundai engines that were brand new, and they didn't torque the cylinder heads on right.(read: not at all) The cylinder heads were just bouncing on top of the engine.
Those engines were a total write off too. It warped the heads, and destroyed the ring seal, and over heated the crap out of them.
That is the only car company that we see these kinds of quality control problems from.
So, the moral of the story here is: Don't buy a kia or hyundai, and if you already did, sell it, and buy something japanese.

ps, that looks like a Mercury cougar.

The guy was okay, he staggered out of the vehicle right after he hit it. The fire department was only 2 or 3 blocks away, so the trucks were there less than a minute later. Not that it mattered, by the time they put it out his car had burned to the frame. What is scary is this was a low speed impact on a tiny pole; at slightly higher speeds he could have been knocked out and would have burned to death within minutes. To compare, one of my friends hit the same kind of pole at much higher speeds in a miata; he broke the bumper, radiator, oil pan, crossmember, and transmission. He's since replaced the parts and the cars fine. The car never exploded.

Re: Have You Seen This?
Im going to stay away from Kia, there's no reason for me to buy a korean car that costs almost the same as comparable Japanese built car.

Re: Have You Seen This?
Kia Rio Tuner uses a Mazda B6.
I don't know, Kia and Hyundai aren't too bad, i'd get one before I'd get a GM vehicle anyday.
