Babyblue, can you remember how tight the 0.040 bearings
where, and out of interest was honing the rod journal with
the bearings in not thesable?
the 347 rods are built for 700+ hp well the ones i have looked
at and are are resonable price too..
But for a NA engine shot penning the standard rods should be
strong enough? what mostly let's go is the rod connecting bolts..
Daniel, i agree with your statement, but guys on here are asking hey
what fits and what breaks and what can you use off other engines
as lets face it not all of us have tooled up machine shops or deep
pockets or own honda's which have so much aftermarket support
its not funny!
my 2 cents + gst for those in Canada, every where else add your own tax

Bringing back a dead thread here, but do any of these guys still exist on the forums? I'm doing a similar project and the more feedback I can get the better. Shoot me a pm.

Re: MUST KNOW INFO ON TURBO BUILD
A few of us actually used a Chevy 350 Rod. Custom pistons are required same as for the mustang, the pins are much larger and the apron has to be slotted to allow for the larger rod. But at a cost of $250 for 6 rods and custom pistons from Diamond at about $800, that puts you little over $1000 for forged rods and pistons and rings and bearings are VERY cheap. The Crank side of the rod has to be opened up .001 in by a machine shop, this cost about $10 per, but since they were balancing the whole setup anyways, that was a small price to pay.
Here is a picture of the 350 rods compaired to the KL rods.

Re: MUST KNOW INFO ON TURBO BUILD
You, my friend, are awesome.
I have lightweight forged 5.400" H-beam rods. SAE 4340 steel, ARP 2000 cap screws. .927" floating wrist pin, 2.100" big end for rod journal. Magnafluxed, shotpeened, x rayed, sonic tested. I'm told they just need the .001" hone on the big end as well, and use stock chevy 350 rod bearings.
What I'm wondering is if anybody has already ordered custom pistons for this setup, and if they have specs for those pistons. What companies are recommended? I had a friend who had a difficult transaction with Diamond, so I'm just seeing what options are out there.

You talking about Brandon? Rebel2k4 I think his user name is or something like that. He got shafted pretty hard on the diamond pistons, it sucks. He is the one I actually got my rods from.tehbrookzorz wrote: I had a friend who had a difficult transaction with Diamond, so I'm just seeing what options are out there.
I have a shop in Huntsville AL actually looking at getting some quotes on a quantity of pistons that would use these rods. They have my crank, rods, flywheel, UDP, etc to balance (after pistons are found).
I have been trying to sell my turbo set up but have found no takers so I might end up having to put it together. I just dont know enough about F/I to risk it. Was going to sell the piping and etc and go ZE, not nearly as nice but at least I would feel comfortable putting it together, right now I feel lost on this turboing business.
I will keep you posted on what they find. They are not considering Weisco, more in the lines of price friendly quality pistons.

Re: MUST KNOW INFO ON TURBO BUILD
Indeed, Brandon is the guy I've been dealing with. I hope they sort that out for him very soon.
Yes, keep me posted! If they happen to give you specs, please pm me or post them so I may compare with my estimations. Thank you.

Re: MUST KNOW INFO ON TURBO BUILD
Well I got my pistons yesterday. Finally.
They are diamond pistons, all custom made to fit those 5.400" rods. Teflon coated sides, and ceramic coated top. Stock 84.5mm bore, ~8.5:1 c/r, anti detonation ring land grooves. They are beautiful.
Not sure if I'm finishing this build, anyone wanna buy em? lol

Call me Brandon. I am still interested if you are going to actually sell them. I should have my cell on me all day.
