My Next Idea/Plan: CarPC

Post by matt753 »

So I got really interested in getting a nice touchscreen monitor, hooking it up to one of my old laptops, getting a usb gps receiver, and a way I go. This way I can have my whole music library, along with music videos with me, along with navigation, internet when i can get wifi, along with all the other functionality of a computer.

I was looking at this monitor: http://store.mp3car.com/2008_Lilliput_7 ... on-016.htm
(I really don't want to pay $700+ for an in-dash one when these are $300)

With this software: http://store.mp3car.com/StreetDeck_Nort ... dk-005.htm
(Be sure to watch the video)

Just a few concerns, I would like everyone's input on for those who have more experience with this than I do.

1. Where is a good place to mount this? (On the dash, passengers side, on some sort of movable/adjustable stand above shifter/in front of hvac controls?), Making it look as clean as possible, hiding all wires, etc.

2. With a normal battery and stock alternator, will it be able to power the monitor along with the laptop, and my sound system (2 300-400 watt amps, dual 12's in the back)?

3. Is that the best software? Do I have to pay the $200 for it or are there ways around the registration?

4. What is the best way to connect my laptop to my head unit? (ex: external sound card with what kind of connections?)

Dont pirate software.. use Roadrunner ;)

I have a lilliput 619. I like it, glare sux. Id suggest saving up and buying an LED backlit transflective screen. You'll be glad you did.

Id suggest getting a 1+ farad cap if you want to help save your alternator.

I'd remove your stock headunit, mold it into the double din slot (thats what I did)

Soundcard to amp = best way to get sound without a headunit.
