OK, so I've been curious about this... Lets see if anyone has a simple answer.
My car's got some Polk Amps and speakers. I've got the remote wire going to the CD player, obviously, but I don't use the CD player.
I've got the RCA to audio jack, and the audio jack hooking up to my portable media player (Sandisk Sansa)
My CD player triggers the amps on, and I play the music directly off my sansa.
However, I want to eliminate my CD player. How should I jigger up the correct voltage on the remote wire? I guess I would need a manual turn on mechanism, where I can just flip the amps on and off when I need them. Any suggestions?

Re: Jiggering up a current on the REMOTE
well i know some people take there remote wire to a fuss in the fuss box i think it may be the ignition fuss or something in the lines of that maybe the fuss for the console lights you just want to make sure you have it in one that only has power whenthe key is on. another option would be to run a wire from your battery to a inline switch and back tot the amp just remember to turn it on and off

Yeah the remote turn on just requires a 12v source, so you can just run your amps off a switch.

Re: Jiggering up a current on the REMOTE
great! Then I'll jigger up the fake button next to the defogger with a real button and call it a day, wire it up nice and simple. I guess i can tap in to the cigarette lighter's wires, that way if I forget to turn the button off, it'll still shut off with the car.
