Would you drive 3,000 Mi for a GS-DE for $900?
I can buy a '92 GS with a Millenia engine, and new suspension - 180,000 on the body, and 60,000 on the engine for $900. I would fly to Brooklyn, and drive it back to Portland. He says that the timing belt and everything was changed in the swap, but didn't seem totally confident about the distance. I really like driving, and will bring a friend for the trip, visiting friends along the way, so that's not a problem.
So, what do you think?

go for it. As long as he's done tuneup and all the things running ok you should be fine. I like road trips in my mx-3, it just zooms at 80mph on I90. Make sure your belts are tight also.

It sounds like a fun road trip. I love taking my MX-3 on road trips! Just make sure as said above that the belts are tight and if you feel as if the timing belt should be replaced, contray to what he said... then have it replaced... unless of course he has a receipt showing it was replaced. Also, make sure your coolent level is correct and change the oil to be on the safe side and inspect the tire treads!

If you fall, then get back up........Luck favors the prepared
$900 sounds pretty cheap. Maybe it's in decent condition, but not 3,000 miles decent. It's an old car, and it's a long trip. It's not your car, you don't know what to expect, you don't know what kind of problems it had, and what kind of problems it might have.
Not really my idea of adventure, but if you're down for towing it the rest of the way, in case it shuts down or something goes wrong, then yeah, go for it.

Agreed. I'd say you're better off driving there with a car trailer and towing it back. That way you save on airfare, and you get two roadtrips. You won't have to worry about the car not surviving the trip, and once you get it home you can do all the vital maintenance stuff before even driving it. Who knows when the last time was that the oil was changed.Whisper wrote:$900 sounds pretty cheap. Maybe it's in decent condition, but not 3,000 miles decent. It's an old car, and it's a long trip. Personally I think that actually doing the swap is half the fun, therefore I'd never buy one with a swapped engine. But to each their own.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure...umcamara wrote:You're very indecisive. I guess that frees you of any liability. :wink:SuperK wrote:DOn't take my advice
I wouldn't call it indecisive, really. It's just what I'd do.
And what I'd do isn't the best idea, so I advise others not to do what I do. See? Works out wonderfully!

He's right I think. It would probably be cheaper to have it shipped. you can take a road trip when you know it's not a dud.Custommx3 wrote:For that $$.. have it shipped.
Plane ticket+gas+food+hotel = more than it would prob cost to ship it by truck.
