need a new transmission, what to buy?

Post by mazdamx3sohc »

i have a 93 sohc. i want it upgraded since its gunna be ripped out, it sticks in gear and is hard to put in and out, then it doesnt come out unless i hit it out. what transmission can i use and what do i need with it? i would like one from a bp, but i cant find any 90-94 protege 1.8's and i found only one escort gt but it was junk.

you can put a g-series trans from a Bp on a sohc but u'll have to modify the bp halfshaft to make it all work.. the bp flywheel will bolt up to the sohc.

im still thinking if i should use a f-series or g-series trans for my boosted sohc.. ya u read right..

modifying the bp half shaft was done by a local fabricater where i live at.. i
had get the half shaft cut in two where the the 3 bolt holes are at and slide it back to where the 3 bolt holes line up to the 3 bolt holes on the sohc when i got that done i had the 2 peice tag weld and them weld all around.. iron is really had to weld.. but that what i had done to get the bp half shaft to work on the sohc..

u know that u will need the BP

g-series trans
flywheel and clutch
top trans mount
slave cly.
half shaft (which u'll need to modify to work on a sohc)
both axles

ur sohc front and rear trans mounts will work on a g-series. but if ur are shot then ur better off getteing the mounts from the g-series same as f-series trans mounts front and rear i mean.

i got the transmission today, it needs axles and the clutch disc is safe to say, gone....he clipped off all the wiring so i have the plugs. the mounts and everything look worn...o well...im gunna rebuild this thing, clean it and paint it before it goes back in..

HERES THE QUESTION..
i need a new clutch disc, the pressure plate and bearings are all in great shape, i also got the flywheel and that is in good shape too....when i buy the new clutch disc, does it have to be spefically oem replacement???? cuz i want a performance disc if i can use it with a oem style clutch kit.

u can use a aftermarket disc but its not going to help u.. being a stock pressure plate.

what makes a clutch a clutch is the pressure plate..

in my f-series trans i used a 1.6 miata flywheel and ACT extreme pressure but since the miata disc the spline was to large for the trans shaft.

i was force to use a 1.6 dohc disc clutch with the miata clutch.. it help up to my 18psi untill i upgraged..

but to be truthfull u can buy just a stock disc on ebay and aftermarket pressure plate and u'll be good.

it can be just a heavy duty act clutch just search for it.

do u get it or do i have to reword it i know what io mean i don't know if u will understand what i mean..
