1.8L BP..what should i do next?
i have the 1.8l in my 94 mx-3 that iv put a cai and a pacesetter header on..short throw..w/ Brullun exhaust system..all that bolt on stuff...and i want to do something to get some more power out of it.....whats next that i can do...the interior is getting redone when the car gets painted which is in about 3 or 4 weeks...so i can afford to have it off the road...as its being painted in my garage....if anyone has any ideas that would be great:)..thanks.

Boost that bad boy. Nothing better then a Boosted BP. Look around for used BPT turbo parts. There is a guy trying to sell the complete kit for a turbo upgrade on clubprotege.

With what you would spend on a build up you can run a nice little turbo setup with much more gains. To each his own. But I have seen people spend alot on N/A builds then wish they would of boosted.

na build wont be much for the bp. they can handle the boost and put out a good bit of power at low boost. youll enjoy the boost much more than the na build.
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

I didn't see you mention it, but what about the basics?
Have you replaced the oxygen sensor? Upgraded the plugs, wires and coil? Have you changed the transmission oil? Engine oil to synthetic? Have you insulated the CAI tubes and the header tubes? Replaced the fuel filter, checked the fuel pump? Added a phenolic spacer at the intake header? Properly timed the valves and ignition? Relubed the wheel bearings? Use premium gas? Are your brakes rubbing?
I know it's not too sexy, but the basics can mean a lot of wheel HP difference between a well tuned car and one that is just so. Also, I know a lot of people who think that adding turbo is a cheap and easy way of adding on HP -- and it is true to a certain point. However, adding turbo can make a problem worse. So, before you add turbo, make sure your engine is 100% good, otherwise you'll be making a bad situation go worse faster than it other wise would have.
Also, did you install the CAI such that the pressure of the car pushing against the air helps push the air through the filter?

not on a 94 and up. they use a MAF not a VAF.TREVO123 wrote:Do the rx7 vaf upgrade with intake, then get a header with 2.5"exhaust,. ull like..u could also to the exhintake cam with cam gears,, read more about it on clubprotege.. more bp;s and mods
But one thing you could do is swap the engine wiring harness and ECU to that from a Pro LX. it puts your redline up to like 7200 RPM. and would eliminate the MAF so you could use the 2nd gen RX7 VAF.
if you do a N/A build look around there are alot of little things you can do for power. like a Neoprene intake Mani gasket, 99 and up Miata pistons 10:1 vs 9:1. go with a 99 to 01 Head. as it uses hydralic lifters and you will gain alittle bit more N/A (but big gains on boost).
you can do a cheep turbo setup and put your N/A motor around 170 to 200 WHP without a piggy back and still run great. doesent mean you will pass emissions but with low boost you can do it.
