CEL and HOT exhaust

I've had a blinking CEL for a while now. Over winter, I changed the disty and the crank sensor. The exhaust is really hot, you can feel it in the foot wells, and recently I noticed that the trunk is red hot (melted some plastic items on the floor of the trunk).
Could it be 02 sensors? Cat?

blinking CEL is a terrible thing.

Often (in my experience) its a sign of a Cat damaging condition. If this holds up, likely youll need new o2 sensors and a new cat as well

What is a cat-damaging condition? Something else that's fouling the cat? Or just the cat is no good?
