did hei mod and still having problems

Post by dillon »

i installed the new ignition modual from a 82 chevette as per the write up, wired it up all ok, double, triple checked it and it still wont start, it worked fine for 1 day and now its dead, just will roll over, it seems now like it was a problem that was getting worse and worse, and now what ever was going is gone, i didnt pull and codes yet, there were none the day before it crapped the bed,

any ides, any other common problems. fuel filter or pump mabey, i need my wheels, thanks

Same problem as before the HEI mod?
Did the mod and it worked for 1 day and back again? or worked fine till the HEI mod?

The car was dieing intermitently, random...Then after a random amout of time it woudl start again, Sometimes minutes....some times days.

He did the hei mod as per the faw, cut the orange wire (top of 6pin connector) and its still no better. I believe he got a cam sensor code before the mod as well (or was it crank sensor?)

Next step is probally to try an external coil incase thats what died. Or maybe a new crank sensor.

BTW, this is my old car thats why i know all this :)

Ah, I thought the stock ignition module grounded through it as well. Oops.

He cut the orange 6pin wire off, that stops the ecu signal from getting to the stock modual.

This is another thread on the HEI mod.. its a fun read and there are some diagrams in there that may help you double check your setup. Not sure why Mnemonics diagrams arent showing up though.. maybe he can get those fixed :)
