jamesmx3's 1.6(b6de)

Post by jamesmx3 »

hi i joined a whle ago but haven't posted any pics of my car.
Since buying in january i have done a few minor mods, a CAI, cat back exhaust, polished rocker/cam cover?, polished IM, oil catch can, front top mounted strut brace, Kerr nelson HT leads, ground wire kit, polished exhaust heat shield.

heres a pic with just the CAI on as it was the 1st mod:

and how it is now, i could have shown loads of pics at the different stages, but its easier this way:
Image

i have bought a 230 piece s/s bolt kit to replace all of those rusted engine bay bolts, and have some more blue hose, its the darker blue though, im not sure if i like it yet, if i do put it on i'll have to replace the joins on the CAI with darker blue ones.

the extirior is standard, but my plans are to get it lowered 40mm, i think thats around 1.5". I want to use the tokico struts but not sure which springs.

any comments/ideas welcome.

dont know if you can see but i have got some of my rusty bolts replaced by s/s bolt ones, i'm talking to a company over here and trying to get a kit made up. They sell an mx5/miata kit, which i bought and am currently fittng and noting which bolts fit and which dont, so they can create a specific mx3 kit.

started off with 320grit wet and dry paper, then just used finer grades up to 1500grit , then got some meguires all metal polish and polished it. that got it to an ok shine but wasn't great. so i found an aluminuim polishing kit on ebay, which came with loads of different wheels, from tough scotch-brite to buffing wheels it also came with two different polishes.

somthing similar to this, but with some buffing wheels.

havnt done much for a while, i tried a sub in the wheel well, but took it out, also took off the oil catch can think it looks beter with out it. i have bought a probe header and downpipe in stainless steel, as you may be aware it needs a couple of mods but i think ive been lucky, i'll be able to mod a probe cat to fit rather than go custom, and only have to bre the inner ports and drill the holes for the studs.

this is the high flow cat i got from ebay for a probe, ill take out 55mm from each end and weld the flages back on to make it fit with the cat back system i have on at the moment. it was cheap but wont pass an emissions test so i'll have to get a proper cat, hopefully a sports one.

lowering tommorow on zx2s and -40mm lesjofor springs, hopefully it'll go ok, i have a new air ratchet to play with im hoping to get it done a bit quicker with that. no camera atm though so i'll have to wait a bit to post pics. also got some new spark plugs, bosch super4s and some polyurethane exhaust mounts to stop it hitting the speed bumps!

dropped it looks great, but the ride is harsh. i used powerflex bumpstop kits thta came with dust covers as the had a 22mm bore for the zx2s. put in some bosch super4 plugs and some new brake fluid in. havnt noticed any difference in the brakes though.

i'll get pics up when i can i dont have a camera atm. the front sits a bit higher than the back, i think thats because its a 1.6 not a v6, which im guessing is heavier?

Since dropping the car I've been scrapping over the speed humps at work, so it going in to the exhaust builders on Tuesday. He is going to straighten up the Probe downpipe and the cat back so that it all the pipes run level and in the proper place. The downpipe is also hitting the trans and the crossmember, so that'll be sorted out too. Its going to cost £70ish for the work but I think its worth it, as for me to heat the stainless and bend it there is a bigger chance of it cracking/splitting than them madrel(sp?) bending it.

I've ordered a rear strut bar from ebay, was going to go to corksport but I thought if I did, I'd end up buying both front and rear so they match. I will have matching ebay bars though.

I think I'm going to go for those brakes I linked before, then I think i might leave it alone. I have a cylinder head to build up and swap at somestage, only because I want to learn how to do it and my valve seals are on there way out. After that i guess routine maintenance :D, as I don't want to do any body mods or high performance mods.

I will however replace any parts that need replacing wth uprated one where possible :D

let me know what you think or if theres anything I've overlooked!

(still no camera, grrrr!!)
