Those are pretty much it. Custom gear sets can be bought, but I cannot remember who sells them and they were EXPENSIVE. I think the G series trannies for the four bangers use the same gear sets too, but I haven't had a chance to look at part numbers or try and swap them from one tranny to another. Just a visual inspection of an open V6 G series and a open 4 banger G series, they looked identicle- well the Kia 4 cly version of the G series and the Mazda V6 G sereis looked the same. The Mazda 4 cly version was weaker in several spots.

Just the the diff- I think that is all you would need. However, I said I am not sure so if I were you I would find a really cheap 4 banger and v6 trans to play with first.

Search for posts by Gro_Harlem. I remember he swapped over internals from a Ford ZX2 trans. Said to have stronger gears and forks. I don't remember if the ratios were different tho, but i think they were.
Also, it appears the 4cyl G series use an alloy shifter fork on the secondary shaft, while the V6 G trans use a steel fork.
The Ford Escape also used a G series trans. I know one ZX2 company was making custom trannies with the Escape internals or something like that.

For what I was told the MSP LSD only works on 4:11:1 ratios. One of the reason for the ZX-2 swap besides for the better internals was also to change the ratio to accept the LSD. That's what I was told anyway, but regardless, should be a kickass combo anyway

It's in the process, my second tranny is apart, my case is getting powdercoated and I have the LSD with me in VA to get welded.
I got all my tranny internals from Gro just over a year ago. He can get MazdaSpeed components at a discount price for himself, but you can get the MSP LSD OEM through Mazda as well.
The ZX-2 gearset is apparently out of the SR model, but it's just an Escort, I dont see why it would have an LSD option. 97+ is the reported years. You can find some info on this setup in the FAQ.

The LSD in the ZX-2 was never available as a OE option but they did have a P/N# for a LSD kit that was never published in the Motorsport catalog although is in the computer. Came across this one quite by accident looking for parts for my ZX2 daily beater. BTW there was 2 different version of the G series trannies in the ZX2. The early production version of the '98 was a production freak with different gear ratios and all other version had the same mazda tranny. The 9/02 to end of production 2003 models would have had the same beefed up OE parts as in the Protege. The 2WD Tribute/ Escape use many of the parts from the bullet proof version of the G25 MTX used in markets out side of japan and north america.Trevor wrote:Mike have you done the swap with that diff? If so what was the cost of the Diff and where did you get it? And if the Mazdaspeed protege gear sets fits my case then it should work. Does the ZX2 come with LSD as well??? if yes is the year car 97-00 or what?

It shouldn't be to hard to find a used ZX2 (note there is no difference between the MTX used in the SPI and Zetec, Escort sedan or wagon the '99-'00 S/R trannies are also the same). The total annual unit production numbers for the ZX2 in '98, '99, '00 exceeded the total number of MX-3's imported in to North America from '91-'96 according to NHTSB figures. It is also the same tranny as used in the 2.0L LX, ES & P5 Protege's and the +'00 626. As mention before trannies produced after mid 2/02 should have the beefed up internals such as main shafts, shift forks, syncros and some of the gears.Trevor wrote:Thancks For the Info yoda I think I will start searching the Wreckers for a low mile ZX2 Tranny and I will just get the MSP dif from mazda!
