I'm assuming you're talking about the rear, right?

Well, first of all:

How wide are the rims?
What's the offset?
Did you get alignment done?
Do you have spacers?

Bet you have the wrong backspacing.

I had 17x7.5" Konigs for YEARS with 205/40/17s and never had any problem.

I was rolling on my 17" TSW Razor's with 205/40/17 for several years and never had that problem and they were 4 x 100... 7.5 in wide rims...

I was using tokico blues during that time

you probably have the wrong offset.
205/40/17 should not rub.

I was working over at the store today (weekend job) and we had 2 different MX-3er call in looking for wheel spacers for the same wheel and tire size rubbing on the struts. The guys on the counter knew I ran 225's on my car for years and never had a problem rubbing the struts.

One of these guys didn't know the offset of anything other that the tires size. The other guy we figured out right away when he said he only needed spacers in the rear and it was a RS. He had done a rear disc conversion using parts from a EGT/ Protege GT when told us everything we needed to know why the tires were rubbing

I have Ecsta Mx's up front and Supra 712's on the rears, all in 205/40 on my Konig Heliums which have a 17x7 offset. The only issues i had with rubbing was when my rear strut mounts were rusted away.
