Aftermarket Headlights

Post by 95Precidia »

Hey guys I know there are a bunch of people that dont like the look of the stock mx3 headlights and I happy to be one of these. This is the only thing I never really have liked about these cars. Anyways my question is, is their any possible way to change the healights with actually getting the custom made civic projectors, I remember seeing something a while back on cardomain about a guy named spydie that made his own headlights and all he did was put cans inside the headlights or something and it looked really good. Anyone have any ideas

Thanks

there are no aftermarket headlights for the mx3 whatsoever ... any headlights on an mx3 that u think are different than stock are merely customized by the ingenious owner of that car ...

come to think of it, i refuse to put money down on any non-stock-headlights if they can't be fitted with HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights ... the only mx-3 i've seen possessing HIDs is V4ndalu's in Portugal/Spain ... it horrifies me ... true import tuners would jump on the boat for HIDs ... V4ndalu's mx-3 is European (E-spec) so he has different stock headlights than us in North America (his bulb being H4, ours being 9004) ... I searched whether HIDs could be put into the 2001 Civic Halo Projectors, but the results held no promises so i'm sinking away ever so fastly from buying those ... What options do I have then? I really am not too interested in putting HIDs in my stock 9004 headlights because the plastic lenses, as we all know, look shytty, and there aren't many resources here regarding ppl who have replaced their North American units for the E-spec headlights (which are the only headlights i know of that readily accept HID, according to V4ndalu's photos) ...

I just recently purchased a 6000k HID kit for my 92 gs. Even with plastic housings it still looks amazing! I was impressed by how it updated the look of the mx-3. And the difference in lighting? at least 2 times better than any other bulb I have ever used (and I have tried everything!)

I was also impressed by the plug and play... I had them installed in 15 minutes!

The gs I'm talking about is custommx3's old car. After I wrecked the front end (just the hood and bumper... not the chassis thank goodness) I found a eunos presso front bumper and fixed the radiator support, used the hood from my other mx since I had a CF one for that. The thing is that the headlights never quite sat right again after I put them in... I know they point lower than they should but since I got this HID kit I can see better and I know I am not blinding oncoming drivers. It's such clean light!

I do have a question though and I was searching through the forums but I can't find anyone who has put HID's in the civic projectors. When I installed the projectors in my other car (the klze) I noticed a sticker that says "do not use HID bulbs" but I'm wondering why you can't. From what I can tell they don't burn any hotter in my regular housings. I think I might just give it a shot and if they melt they melt.... just wondering if anyone has tried it yet...

not sure if you ran across my thread but a company in the philipines is making projector housings out of my head lights and plans on offering them for sale...

i don't have all the details yet but a full set with project lamps and wiring will be about $400... i think just the housings will be around $200 then you can buy HID projectors (is there such a thing?) and add them into the housings

You didnt search very hard because there are HID kits that are readly available for our headlights. And you dont search by kinds of headlights you search by the type of bulb used (just so you know there are hid upgrade kits for the 2001 civic projectors, you just look up an hid kit that uses the same bulb size). And HID kits are designed for various type of bulbs and can fit into its counter part headlights that use those bulbs. I dont understand how you had any trouble finding this out.

As for your question are there ANY aftermarket headlights, Yes there is a member on here who has made some nice headlights on here, he offered to make them for other people on here, but most are 2 cheap to pay for quality, I believe he was charging 600 for the set, but they use 2 90mm beam made by Hella, which if you know anything about lighting Hella is one of the top companies for lighting.

If your wanting to just buy a cheap set of plug in play then no there are no headlights offered.

Also it may be of some help next time if you post this in the lighting and electrical section rather than the appearance section.

not true!! headlights will be available within the next few months they are making them right now i already mentioned this... and the person selling them only sold an insert that you had to cut and mold into the lights yoru self plus you had to buy lights to add to them ... for 600 that just didn't seem like a good deal plus I and i'm sure others didn't like the style of them very much...

as to the tons of HID's out there for our cars the only ones i've seen aren't really good quality... if you want goo HID's get them from a mercede's and cut up your housings to fit the bulbs doesn't look great on the back of the lights but light themselves look great at night

When i see a set on an mx-3 then i'll believe there are sets out there, we've had people come and go saying they are making them that companies are building designs and each person has came and gone and nothing was ever made, so i'll believe it when i see it.

And your wrong about the 600 for the insert, he made the insert for his and yes you had to send a set of headlights to him so that he could fix them, but the 600 i mentioned was for a full set of Hella 90mm powered projector headlights, and by far his is the best design out of anyone who has made there own projector headlights.

doing your own projector retrofit isnt that difficult, i was actually amazed at how simple it really waz. Im using hella 90mm projectors and the high flasher for a set of old civic projectors. Sanded down and polished the oem lights.

ur telling us u sanded down the oem headlight covers and then polished them out to make them look like THAT?!!
wow i didnt no u could do that.. im pretty sure no one did, otherwise ppl on this
forum wouldnt be so intrested in dishing out $200 or so for a pair of clear lenses.
hmm hopefully im understanding this right cuz then this sounds like a summer project! :D :D

if its so easy do u think u can post a "how to" explaining how to make a pair of headlights like yours?! pleeease :D

yah i can do that for you if you want.... I have a set im making for a buddy, i can make an faq when i do those ones.

And YES that is just the oem lens, it took me around 1hr sanding per lens, and another 20 minutes each to polish them. I used an air die grainder with the 2'' roloc discs, starting with a 40 grit, to get all the big humps off the lens, then worked it finer and finer with hand sanding.
