Crank Position Sensor

Post by Jovian2k »

Ok I am getting CEL code 3 (Crank Position Sensor- G Signal) at times and my car is runnng sluggish and seems to be less fuel efficient. Starts no problem so I am thinking it needs a New CPS. Is the Crank Position Sensor the same on all 4cyl cars (SOHC & DOHC)? I can get a sensor for a 95 but I have a 93. Thanks

there are 2 Crank Angle Sensors. one by the crank, one in the disty.

If you replace one.. could be the other.

Yeah I'm hoping it is not the one in the disty because that would be a lot less $, but I am looking into distributors as well. If it was the one in the disty would my car be running/starting ok like it is? It only comes on every now and then and when it does, car just runs a little sluggish

Just emailed mazda near me and here's what the guy says...
That sensor is located within the Distributor on the 1.6L.

Part# B3F518200R00 MSRP-288.30 Website-230.64 Core-50.00

I would have to order it.

The only MX-3 that used an external crank sensor is the 1.8L V-6. All the 1.6L's have the re CPS located inside the distributor and you have to get the entire dist to get it.
... if this is true I NEED to get a new disty

yes - B6 engines do not have a crank position sensor - they only have the cam position sensor in the disty - 95-98 1.8L BP engines have the extra crank position sensor.

I got a used disty sitting in my garage!! Help me get rid of it!!!

PM your zip, state, city and if you can get paypal going.

thinking about $80(canadian) + shipping was taken off my working 1.6 1992 mx-3 engine.

I'm going through my garage and just found it. So If you don't take it soon I'm gonna be making a pretty big online garage sale. So stay posted!! :D
