Cordless impact wrench?

Post by nightfire »

So I was at crappy tire tonight and they had that 14.4V cordless impact wrench on sale. I'd always considered them a joke because 1) they're heavy an expensive and 2) they're just not very strong.

I sat around debating it for 20 minutes, playing with it. It seemed pretty hefty. In the end I decided not to get it because my air wrench is 650ftlb, lighter, nicer... and this one was about 100. What would I use that for?

Has anyone tried this one? It was the Mastercraft 3K0. Does it have enough torque for lug nuts?

I did some googling around when I got home and saw this new one from Makita:

Which is god damned expensive... but 170ftlb *may* be enough to do something useful with.

It would save hauling my compressor down to the parking garage...

Anyone tried it?

Interesting... maybe I'll get one after all.

There was a lithium polymer one (10.4V) that was rated 850inlb, and the 3K0, NiMH, 14.4V rated at 1050inlb. The lipo one looks nicer.. easier to maneuver, but the 14.4V one was stronger.

Hmmph.

Dewalt has many types. We have a small and a large one at work from their 18v line, and they have torque.
