its your remote/accessory wire, for turning amps on, power antennas, things like that. i have mine hooked up to the amps and nothing else. if you are not going to use it just cut a clean end then wrap in black tape.

Close but no cigar, but the head unit has a dark blue wire for the amp remote, and a blue/black for power antenna. thanx though i was guessing that until i found the other two.

the light blue wire is for telephone mute. For those cell phone car kits. Heres the wiring diagram for most sony stereos:

Pin Number Wire Color Description
1 White Left Front Positive
2 Green Left Rear Positive
3 Violet Right Rear Positive
4 Grey Right Front Positive
5 Blue/White Amp Remote
6 Blue Antenna Remote
7 Red Accessory 12 VDC
8 Black Ground
9 White/Black Left Front Negative
10 Green/Black Left Rear Negative
11 Violet/Black Right Rear Negative
12 Grey/Black Right Front Negative
13 Light Blue Telephone Mute
14 NC
15 NC
16 Yellow Constant +12 VDC

sorry guys, the light blue wire usually has a white stripe, and it is used for power antennas. clarion has the same thing on their decks. it will only put power thru it when the radio is on and not with the cd playr(or cassette depending) the cell mute wire you are thinking of is usually pink and the headlight dimmer wire is usually orange. hope I helped a bit.

OK the light blue wire (and this is true) is a wire that can only be found on SONY model Head units. It was desinged with a purpose in mind but as production of the SONY line progressed some jokesters at SONY thought it would be funny to run a light blue wire that would serve many different purposses (power ant, remote, Tele mute, and a couple others)Thier intentions where to make mini fueds amoungst group discussions, They are laughing at us now.

Bringing this up from the dead ---

I have sony HU CDX-MP70 and i cant find the wiring diagram - the info above helps a lot - but i need to find the speed pulse wire (the wire that connects to the speed sensor and automatically levels volume with car speed). Please help if you have any info on this. Thanks.

I don't know what the speed pulse thing is for a sony deck (cause most decks don't have that feature)

but I can post the speed pulse wire in the MX-3

1991-1994 -> The engine control unit is located in the centre console, on the transmission tunnel. The Pulse is at pin 7 of the yellow, 26 pin connector

1994-1998 -> The engine control unit is located in the centre console, on the transmission tunnel. The signal is at pin 5 of the yellow 22 pin connector.

*this is third party information from http://www.wvopzeeland.nl/Speed-signal%20list.pdf
so test before you use any wires!!!!

good luck!!
and what kinda sony deck requires a speed pulse signal? do you have the model number?

Thanks for the info. I had already looked up the speed signal from the VSS sensor. When i installed sony CDX-MP70 i distinctly remember seeing a wire for the speed pulse mentioned in the schematics that came with it. Now i cant find the schematics and am not sure if this deck even has that functionality. Anyway thanks for the help.

Well, i have been doing a lot of highway driving lately and i am tired of trying to take a busy exit and fiddling with the volume control at the same time. Besides i am looking for a new headunit with HD radio anyway...
