Adding Air Con with a KLZE, DE swap

Post by AZ-3,1498cc,UK »

I am considering a ZE/DE swap with my K8. At present I have no Air Con as standard on the car. If I buy a ZE/DE block along with the Air Con parts: pipes condensor etc how difficult would it be to add Air Con to the car. Would i be able to use MX-6 aircon parts or would I need MX-3 parts, and would i be able to add the A.C switches to the dash. Would this job be a nightmare?

if you use mx3 or protogay /escort lines get all the plastic clipps and it will fit mx3 condensor & suction & discharge lines are needed as they are diffrent.

i like the mx6 idea. the mx3 or protogay /escort lines circle the engine bay. but the ma6 lines are all on the drivers side. the mx6 condensor must be used and may have to be modified by a radiator shop. mx6 lines will be a complicated pna but if you pull it off would look clean.

i am very certian the under dash parts are the same for pre 94 mx3 or protogay /escort lines. after 93 they change stuff up.

Mx-6 aircon parts on the mx-3 sound complicated, i wanna do the job for cheap. So can the MX-3 aircon parts be used on the ZE/DE block?

The only part of the motor that the AC acutally is involded in is the pulley. So yes, if you have a K series now then the AC will be as easy to hook to the motor as getting the compressor, bracket, and belt.
I don't know if Mazda wired all cars for AC or not, but it shouldn't be too hard to tell. First thing to worry about is the refrigerant piping. If the car has that then you are in good shape. If not you'll need to source some from a V6 MX-3. I see that MaxKL sais you can use the piping from other cars, but I don't see how they are going to bolt right in since the engine bays are a good bit different. However, he might know something htat I don't. It needs to not be kinked or bent with no rust. Then you need to look for the wiring for the compressor, relays and AC switch on the dash. If you have all of that then the project is looking up. If not I'd say it is not worth it since it will require a ton of work to add it. Another good thing to do would be to call a local Mazda dealer and talk to them about it. They should know if the car is setup for AC even though it was sold without it.
