Dynamat - Sound Deadening - And Alternatives

Post by SuperK »

So I'm looking at some sound deadening materials for my car - full coverage.

Dynamat Xtreme looks like a great option, but I'd like some feedback on people who's preferrably tried this.
If anyone has experience with other sound deadening materials that would compete with Dynamat Xtreme, I'd like to know myself.

So far, All I really see for options is genuine Dynamat Xtreme, and eBay Dynamat ripoffs.

What's you's guys's's experience? I'd love to know

-Kris

To follow up, I've also found Xtreme for $125 USD shipped. 36 sq ft, which is 9 sheets of dynamat.

Please add your opinion of "is it worth it" as well, I'd really apprectiate it

It appears that a search hasn't been done yet since I've done a number of posts on this subject about a year or so ago. I believe there may be at least 3 threads on this subject.

I did a search on dynamat on the forums and got a ton of generic topics saying

"I used dynamat"

and that's about it. I also tried doing some google searches, but it's either dynamat or bust and only manufacturer specs of the material, there was no material related to real-time testing, comparison against others or against none. I don't want to hear what the manufacturer says, I want to hear what the consumer says. I trust their opinion more.

Perhaps if you used other search words like sound, deadening you might have had better results.

Kris, I gave some info on what I used and where it could be found.

Little difficult to compare since most people wouldn't use different products at the same time to accomplish the same result.

I've heard good things about Brown Bread this past summer at a meet.

Others;

I've also posted in this same Forum (Car Stereo / Alarm) a list of at least 6 car audio BB/sites that would also be an excellent place to try your search.

I'm using a new innovative truck bed sprayable liner called REFLEX. You might want to look into it. They lay it on 1/4 inch thick.

How did this work out for you chew*? Ease of installing?, Noticeable soundproofing differences? Before and after?

Honestly, I was hoping maybe someone was venturous to test different materials and brands on a head to head comparison, maybe placing the different materials on a test platform to measure resonance/vibration dampening quality of different materials.
I guess that's kind of far out there, but I was still hoping someone did a such thing so I could see how one material held up against another. I apologize if I didn't make myself clear, or if this is a bit outrageous, I would like to get the most potential out of a slice, that's all.

I'd like to know if anybody ever tried the (POWER)-MAT off eBay.
Yeah that's how they write it, in parenthesis :) .

To have the best source of info in the right thread, I've compiled more sound deadening materials in my original thread;
http://www.mx-3.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.ph ... 813#384813
Not to jack this thread but it's best to keep the broad info in a broad info thread since this one is titled exclusively for "Dynamat".
For those looking for some sound deadening info, materials, references, sources, tests, comparisons etc, go to the above mentioned link.
