1,6 DOHC or 1,8 DOHC?
1,6 DOHC or 1,8 DOHC?
My mechanic says that my 1,6 Dohc head needs to be opened and redone plus change some valves... He asked for more than 1000Euros which means more than 1200$.
A friend changed this motor for the 1,8 (but without any job on the head) for the same money.
I wonder what should I do. What do you guys think?

If you can find a 1.8L with good compression do the swap. Keep in mind that if you're buying a used engine, you might have to do head work on the new one too
1993 1.6L SOHC. Mazdaspeed mounts, BP09 ECU, BP VAF, Fidanza miata flywheel, exedy miata pressure plate, centerforce mx3 disc, tokico struts, B&G lowering springs, and some sh***y motomaster tires.
Yes I know. That's why I assume that my 1,6 may be fine after the head job with less money. By the way the two engines have a difference of 8hp?Boris wrote:If you can find a 1.8L with good compression do the swap. My car has been examined from two authorised dealers and one friend mechanic. They found nothing responsible for the low idle under electrical loads and hesitation. So one authorised dealer said that the problem is that some 1,6 Dohc heads had problem and it needs to go to the drilling machine. I dont know much. What do you propose?
