Identify this engine..

Post by Custommx3 »

Ok guys, Im out looking for a new motor for my RS..

After scratching my head trying to figure this out so many times my head hurts, its time for a swap.

I gotta keep the auto in the RS. My wife cant drive a stick, so our backup car needs to be auto. I cant seem to find a good motor with low miles that wasnt pulled 8-10 years ago. Plus Ive dumped so much money on new parts trying to resolve the pulsing and misfiring, that I want to keep the stock motor and or be able to use the stock parts that are new on my DOHC.

I found this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-93-MA ... otohosting

This engine

and

My engine
Image

Besides from slight differences look almost identical.

The seller stated that the block code is a BP, but looks nothing like any mazda branded bp Ive ever seen. I have asked the seller to verify the block code and get back with me on it.

Anyone know what this engine comes in? I could guess tons of cars, but guessing doesnt help :)

I may do a swap to manual on down the road, but I wanna keep the stock tranny for now. Im also on a budget, so if anyone has ideas, please, let me know. My RS also has AC, and its HOT and HUMID here. My GS doesnt :(

Any help would be appreciated.

thats no bp at all thats a b6 looks exactally like mine the bp engine has a different valve cover and i don't think that the b6 head can bolt up to the bp's block so either it's a bp engine and i'm compleatly wrong or the guy on ebay has no idea what engine he has

That engine looks like a fwd bp and not like the 1.6 B6 reason the acuater is in plain view to controll the vics on the BP and on the 1.6 b6 the actuater near the TB and not in plain view.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... otohosting

And if u look that pic closely just underneth the intake manifold u'll see two letters BP like the way it BP are stamped. it looks to me like a fwd BP.

I have put maita value cover on the FWD BP and protege lx value cover on the maita before they are interchangeable.

i asked the same thing - he said we had to swap harness for the 90-94 BP which is more like the SOHC model - but the 95-98 model is basically a bored out version of B6DE.

This guy used to be a mazda mechanic that moved to switzerland just when i got my mx-3 - He mentioned about the 95+ protege engines being a direct swap for B6DE in one of his emails. I will try to contact him again. If anyone has access to these engines could you please check....

Dude you should totally jump on this and get that engine for a "reduced" price - because Z5 engines look like this -

(note the PCV valve)

The engine you referred to is definitely an 1.8L BP from 95-98 protege
