shifter wont move

Post by fieromx3 »

does anyone know why in my mx3 the shifter for the auto tranny wont move? even if i press the brakes and all it wont move...i dont think the cable is seized as it hasnt really been sitting. i deacthed the linkage on the tranny its self and i can shift thru the gears then just not thru the shifter.

is the battery dead?

if not

there is a solonoid that locks the shifter it might be jammed, you'll have to follow the online shop manual.

if thats not it then its time for a MTX swap LOL

On the shifter console (with the "p,r,n,d" labels) there's a small opening close to the top on the passenger side - there might be a rubber cap covering it. If you open it and put a screw driver or something through the hole you can manually disengage that solenoid - no battery needed.

Even the car's key works fine as well.

Had the same issue wuth my MX-3,
turned out the locking peice rotates on the same shaft the shifter itself does, the previouse owner, lord bless their 400lb soul, spilt something close to 3 gallons of mic. soada pop on the shifter and it all had gathered at the bottom.

This made it imposible for the little servo(activates when the break is pressed) to move the lock.
