I believe mild steel would be good for headers...

But I was also wondering about chrome-moly... I know that 4130 chrome-moly steel is really good for welding. I was interested in using 4130 a few months ago when I was thinking of making a header... I am pretty sure it works well with heat too, but don't quote me on that.

You can always just go to a metal store and ask what kind of metal they'd recomend. Metal supermarket (i think that's the name) on speers road in oakville is pretty good. The guys there know a lot about metal. I also hear B&D steel in Burlington is good but I haven't been there yet.

Sucks that you can't use stainless...
