Reliability on BPT swap into 1.6l SOHC
Im planning on doing a BPT swap. Has anyone who has done this had any trouble with reliability when it was done right. My dad is a mechanic and will do the swap with me but right after im moving to Tampa, FL, from Fort Myers for college. I need the car to be reliable, and was just wondering if anyone had some comforting words. HAHA THanks alot guys

I didnt swap mine in yet but the gtx and the gtr are built for it. If you keep everything stock when you build it, it will be reliable. But if you are using an NA transmission from a protege try not to beat on it too much.

I've had the bpt as a daily driver for 3 years, driven from miami to philly. Tranny/CLutch failed in first 6 months. The used clutch fork broke and hurt the tranny. I drove nearly 60 milea a day to and from work and it only failed when a rock destroyed my oil pan and when the igniont coil and or module failed. then it failed on a 400 mile trip cause of the ignition coil, module or disty.
My advice replace ignitiion module and coil with new parts. All that I had that failed was from the japanses order so parts were at least 10 yrs old or from a junkyard in US.
I replaced every single gasket except the water pump when I was doing the swap (engine rebuild kit $250). I have since replaced the water pump gaskter and water pump but they did not leave me stranded. Just used one of those coolant leak adatives.
Daily 8 or 9 psi. I have hit 18 psi on rare ocasion.
Be mindful of any plastic or electrical parts in respects to their age.
I had the head rebuilt for $120 before the swap.
