Post by PWRD_BY_HKS »

easy and stupid question but the people at auto zone tell me .44 and the ones from checkers say .35.... they are DENSO spark plugs

I use a .42 on mine.
The larger the gap the more the power (better more complete burn)(if the spark system can handle it.) The MX spark system is pretty weak so I wouldn't go over .44. Also, do an inspection at the next oil change. You want to make sure that the plugs are still gapped properly and that the electrode is not wearing. If the gap has changed fix it to a lower gap. If the electrode is wearing then you need a new plug and gap it smaller.

i hope you mean 0.042" because i don't think our cars could handle a half inch gap. :freak:

I leave mine at .044" for all-motor, and gapped down to .035" for nitrous runs. I have no problems with spark, and the ignition system is completely stock.

mine are gapped at 0.035 and cork sport says that the optimal gap for ze (been proved they said) is 0.035 on bkr7e-11 nkg plugs

I believe that the slightly larger gap gives a tad more HP. Also, I wouldn't trust much that CorkSport sais anyway...

Yes, I meant .042 Oven. (smart a--)

If your ignition system can support the larger gap then yes it will help.. :D

I don't believe what Corksport says either...i have noticed all motor that i run faster with a NGK stage 5 plug...what comes in the MX-6 stock. And on nitrous i stick with the stage 6 plug. The stage 6 plug gapped at a .035 took me to 100 shots on my MX-6 no problem. Stage 7's are Wayy too cold for drving around daily, i used those and the car was crap all-motor, and even on nitrous it didn't feel like it had the same pep as before.

you should try a set of 5's if you were to drive around all motor...u would definately notice a difference. I like the 6's for daily driving all-motor/nitrous.

Many thanks Precidian. I'm thinking a tuneup will be in order this weekend. :)
