I wanna SWAP, need a lot of help too, please!!!

Post by aguiloco »

Hi guys, before beginning I have to say that I´m from Spain, and I speak english only a little, excuse me for this.

I was reading around the forum how about to performance my old stock K8, and decide to be one the first in Spain in swap it to 2.5 JDM KLZE!

But this is my car for daily use, is this engine strong and trustworthy to make around 20k at year?

I´m newbie and have a lot of questions unresolved but investigated.

I need the complete engine, ECU, intake and exhaust manifords, VAF and O2 sensor, is that correct? tell me what will I need in adition.

What happend wit my actual transmision and exhaust? the K8 transmision works good with 200HP? need to replace the exhaust?

Where I can get a engine in good condition of a good distributor?
See those find at internet and tell me if one of them is good in your opinion please:

yes you need the engine (complete). I would reccommend the klze ecu but some run with the k8 ecu fine. Either ecu will use the stock vaf so keep that one. Keep the k8 exhaust manifold and 02 sensors. You need to keep the stock transmission and it'll hold just fine for the klze. You don't NEED to change the exhaust but it is also recommended that you do.

the k8 ecu does run fine, but you'll b wasting alot of gas.....i went from getting 500km/tank to less than 350km/tank after the swap, before the ecu
after getting a KL36 (ZE) ecu it went back above 400kms.

and as far as reliability, provided the swap is done right, you'll be fine. i swapped mine in sept, and since then have put almost 35 000kms

its recommended that while the engine is out, you change timing belt and waterpump since its easier than afterwords, and its a good idea to get a stage2 clutch if you're going to drive it hard. i'm still running a stock clutch and so far its been fine (but i am wanting to replace it to get more grip)
so it all depends how much preventative maintenance you want to get outta the way now, or how much is left till later.

I think you should be careful of some of those engines cause according to this forum, they do not match the description of a true KLZE. Some of them look like a K8ZE. Unless I'm seeing things, I saw a couple that had a straight neck with round runners. There's a sticky in the V6 Tech/ Performance.

well it looks everything like a klze to me.
it has in fact square runners straight neck intake, and kl36 ecu.
EVerything seems in order if you ask me.

The only one it could look like is the kfze wich had also a straight neck intake but round runners but didn't use the kl36 ecu.

a kl could be klde or klze and in this case klze.

on a side note, I knew it, do you guys see on the ecu ??
it says that the kl36 ecu was pulled out of a mtx tranny

But I thought that our Jspec engines didn't have a coolant temp sensor? That's why we're to swap the coolant neck off our K8 or tap the new new one to accomodate the sensor.

Then I only have to buy an engine, but is recommended to change the ECU, fit a new timing belt and put a bigger exhaust, thats correct?. The waterpump of my K8 is the same?

Other questions, what kind of fuel have to use with this japan engine? will pass the anual technical inspection in contaminant emision with my stock exhaust?

I found other engines on the net, the first link have a lot of engines (40 units) very cheap, but dont have a good looking in my opinion, the second is the cleanest and good looking engine I found, what do you think of them?

http://www.jdmsource.ca/v2/product.asp?ID=38

I´m afraid for choose the correct engine, the shipping cost would be expensive to return one.

I thought the last link on the list of links at the top of the page looks the best. Nice clean shop and all the engines on crates, looks organized.

you need to use a minimum of 91 octane, however most of us get ultra94 as much as possible. some say it makes a difference, others don't notice much.

as for emissions, some ppl pass w/o problems, other need it tested as a "hot rod", and others get by w/ other methods....it all depends on the standards for spain i guess.

don't judge from the pic only, as they probably just use one pic for all their engine. so you might get one cleaner or dirtier than the one on th epic

I cant really tell you where to buy from cause i have only dealt with http://www.osakajdmmotors.com but i can tell you NOT to buy from them. Very poor customer service.

Are there any distributors in or near your homeland? I'd imagine shipping and customs fees and all that could get very expensive by the time the engine got to Spain.
