Wider Tires

Post by highlife »

Have a 1993 mx-3 with stock rims and the 185/65/14's. Does anybody know how wide a tire I can put on these stock rims without interference in the wheel wells ?
I'm considering 215/60/14. Speedo will be off 1.8 mph at 60 mph which is acceptable but I'm not sure on the clearance and the lugging factor with the roughly .75 inches larger diameter and 1.25 greater width.
I tried the FAQ and search but am looking for some first hand tried-and-true experience. Thanks

I'm not sure how wide the 14" rims are, but if they are less than 7" then the 215's might be a lil big...., that would make it alot of air to be running on, performance would suck, but any passengers would love ya!

I'm guessing you have a std RS? why do you want such wide tyres?

i'm running 205/60R14. yeah, there is some sidewall mush that takes a little away from the exact feel of the steering, but it's not bad. the extra grip i got made me feel justified. but also, i went from cheap-o tire to Falken Ziex 512s. HUGE difference in grip.

my wheel size is 14 x 7. check out the pics in my profile listing if you wanna see how things look with this size of tire. good luck!

Thanks for the input, I am getting rid of the cheapo tires on there now so since I was at it I thought I'd go wider for the added grip.
