Ignition problem

Post by DoctorP »

Just a quick question. I just put a DE in my car and everything is good to go except I got no spark. I am wondering if anyone has run into this problem before?

One assumes you have just done a straight engine swap?

Have you plugged everything in? including the crank sensor
on the front of the block?

Are you using your k8 loom and dizy?

Etc ETC.

you need to tell us what you have and what you are using before
peaple can help you......

Internal coil test

Disconnect the distributor plug ( 6 pin's )
Disconnect the coil plug ( 3 pins )

Check the resistance of the primary winding
on the three pins Pin A is the closest to the 6 Pin plug
B is the Middle C the end one..

A to C resisitance should be 0.58-0.86 ohms

With the cap off check the resistance of pin C
to the coil tower ( put a screwdriver down it to
touch the contact at the bottom

Tower to C should be 11.5 - 18.5 ohms..

If it an't in this spec range your screwed

Check for power supply to the dizy from memory
the voltage is supplied via the three pin plug.

basically it is a straight swap. We used the original K8 wiring in the car. The distributor is the DE distributor. Everything is plucgged back in except for two plugs that went just under the TB on the K8. I believe they are related to the EGR. What I am wondering is if there is a difference between the way the distributor is wired on the DE as opposed the K8.

Put the k8 dizy back in, i have a funny feeling that the DE dizy
won't work, others on this board are more faimiliar with DE
as we only get Jspec stuff here in NZ.

Just a quick question...what year is the DE?? or disty for that matter?

Cause the 95 Disty although has the same connection is lacking a sensor that the 93-94 De's have and will not start up.

That's exactly what the problem was. So this means that I have a 95 engine? Sorry I'm totally unfamiliar with the DE engine, I ordered a ZE, got the DE and had to put it in because my K8 is dead - still working on getting the proper engine though. I've tried doing searches on DE's but all I get is KLZE with a tiny blurb about the DE.

Question if anyone out there knows ... is the curved neck DE off of the Millennia? I have to find the proper ECU for this engine, as it is surging right now.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

So the car runs alright with your K8 disty? Also this would mean 2 things the engine and disty is a 95 or the disty is a 95 but the engine is from a diff year.

The car should not be surging, even when started with the K8 ECU my car ran fine...start checking hoses and connections.
