Non Interference
Non Interference
I just read in one of the forums that that mx-3 v6 is non interference engine?
Is that true? cause many people have told me different and the shop manual says nothing about it.
Are u sure? I thought it was i changed my belt , tensoine pulleys because i thought it was one!

a guy I know sent his timing wrong. ended with bent valves, and marks on his pistons, he used wiseco pistons though. but the height of the pistons isn't as high as the ze pistons.Wino wrote:I checked the mazda shop manual.
To confirm,
It says interfrence.
thing is I always thought that it was a non interference engine, but I'm begining to think otherwise after seeing a couple of incidents.

Yep it is an interferece engine.
So guys change your timing belts. If over 150,000Km
At work I see alot of bent valves on stuff cuz of snapped timing belts.
Sometimes u can get away with it if the belt snaps in the right spot. However, if u have ever been at the end of a phone when you tell someone there engine needs $2200 in repair and they let out a blood curling scream.....You'll now the importance of timing belt changes on interference engines.

However, this does NOT include the Duratec and Yamaha engines that are used
in some of the Ford-Mazda vehicles.

they would never would have been used in Ford products. This is the reason
for Nissan only having a couple non-interference engines.
Under normal circumstances there should be 0.080-0.100" clearance between
the top of a flat top piston when are TDC and face of the valve at full
extension in the unlikely event the this should happen in the same cylinder
at the same time.

the 12a 13b and 26b are well hell they don't have valves so
hmm are they interferance donks or not...
the "STOCK" K serise motors are non interferance motors
as i check my vavle lift vs total travel when building my motor
and have a easy 0.060 clearance on a stock lift.
