Floor Covering Removal

Post by JapesMooney »

Hi all, this is my first time, so be gentle. ; )
I'm debating trying to remove the floor covering that's currently in my 95 1.6, as it's in less then stallat condition. I haven't see any posts about it, and I'd love to get some feedback as to the general difficulty level. Is it a snap to do once I've got the seats out, or is it one of those pain in the derrier jobs that looks easy but then stretches into a 2 day debacle of swearing, perspiration, beer, tears, and regret?
As well, is there anywhere that anyone knows of OTHER than a wrecker to find replacement material? I'm lucky in that I have a pretty good model that I can strip from here in Guelph, Ont, but I'd rather put in new.
Thanks in Advance!
Japes
As well, sorry if this is in the wrong section - this seemed to be the most appopriate.

by floor covering im asuuming you mean carpeting.

Its not that big of a job, you just take out the seats. the 4 trim pannels up front, one on eather side of where your legs go, driver and passenger.

Unscrew the shifter knob, take out the ash tray, theres 2 screws behind there. take out the rest of the 4 or 6 screws that hold in the console. take the console out.

Take out the back seat. its held in with 2 clips, if you look under the front of the seat you will see them, move them to one side to release the seat.

You will have to make 3 slits in the carpet to get it to go around the brackets that hold the rest of the dash/concole/ecu in place. dont worry about cutting it in there, you cant see it.

The 2 peices of plastic under the doors just pop off. and then you should be able to CAREFULLY take out the carpet.

You will have to manouver it creativly to get it out from under the rest of the plastic around the rear seat area.

Take it slow and its not that big of a job.

Make sure your carefull taking out the seat bolts as they tend to break, and dont forget to undplug your drivers seat wireing harness.

http://1aauto.com/

that's where i got mine and it includes the cargo area for $170 USD plus shipping. they have hundreds of colors and will send samples if desired.

they use the same colors as here,

it was the cheapest place to get it. btw, some sites don't offer the cargo area as well, so be careful.

Thanks very much for the help. I've decided to worry about upping the engine components first, then I'll worry about the non-performance issues afterwards.
