I have the 1993 Mazda MX-3 1.6 L 4-Cylinder. Slow as garbage!!!!
I am considering a motor swap, as I cant even find headers for my stock motor. Let alone pistons, conrods or a turbo.
At first I thought about a H22A Honda motor, but decided to stick mazda/ford, as things will flow a little better.
I am now considering a Mitsubishi Silvertop 4G63 Engine.
Does anybody know how much work would be involved with doing that?
Or does anybody have any advice/ and or better motor ideas to swap?
Thanks,
Nick

Yeah a BPT can be had for about 800.00 from a Jap importer and they are alot easier to integrate into the engine bay.
Usually about 180 WHP from a BPT and the most I've seen on a lightly modded BP-T is 250 WHP. You can get alot more than that out of them, but will need a larger turbo and custom manifold.

Re: 1993 MX-3 Motor Swap!! Help needed Possibly using a KLZE
Doing any swap from something other than a B-series or K-series Mazda engines will be all custom work and parts, nothing will bolt up, and Custom=$$$, lots of it. You can see some insane swaps on rear-wheel drive cars with some decent work, heck, some cars even have kits, but there's too much stuff that's going on in the front end of a front-wheel drive car that it's almost impossible, if you have unlimited funds and unlimited time, but if you had that kind of money, you wouldn't of bought a 13 year old car, I know I wouldn't. Although it's an Mx-3 and is designed to take the V6's, although everything will all bolt it, you need to replace a fair amount of parts (or so i've read) that are in the engine bay because each engine has different requirements and locations.NickIreson wrote:At first I thought about a H22A Honda motor, but decided to stick mazda/ford, as things will flow a little better.

It would't surprise me that in labor alone, you'll easilly twice exceed the price of what you've paid for the Mx-3, now add your add parts to that. Custom motor mounts and axles will easilly be on the list, but you dont know what else will need to be modified, if there's anything in the way in the engine way, you wont find out until you install the engine since the bay wasn't meant for that engine. Now you'll need the computer and wiring harness and wire that in. That's all specilation however, but since the Mx-3 was designed for only what it came with, putting anything but is $$$ to even attempt it, and you dont even know if in the end it's going to work. Not to confuse you, but even Mazda's F-series engines will not bolt into an Mx-3.
BTW, no Ford engines fit in the Mx-3, any Ford engine that does is infact a Mazda engine used in a Ford car on a shared platform. The B-series 4cyl and the K-series v6's are pure Mazda engines.
On the plus side, you have a 93 Mazda Mx-3, therefor, as I've heard and rear (although I'm not a 4cyl guy, so you'll need to confirm with others and do some searches), you can easilly bolt and wire up the highly recommended BPT engine. The BP engine is a Mazda 1.8L 4cyl. Stock they come with about 130hp and you can find them in such cars are Mazda 323's, Protege's and Ford Escorts. But it only starts there, these engines are turbo-ready and was available in Protege's and 323 in a turbo option. The BPTurbo has 2 forms, the GTX @ 180hp, and the rare, high demand GTRX @ 210hp.
There's is baby sister te B6T, but it's import only and replacement parts are hard to find in north america.

i've converted a 6 to a 4 and all i needed was a MX-3 rs crossmember and passanger side engine braket and the shift linkage. everything else just bolted up BP engine g-series tranny protege axles all fit no welding. wiring was a differnt story.
I suppose its vise versa to do the 4cly to a V6 i wouldn't know unless i try it.

yeh swapping B series engines is easy, and fun too...
most b-series engines are a sinchy swap, i know im dropping a 1.8L BP into my car this summer, and the worst ill have to do is run 2 new wires for the VRIS... thats not hard... re-running wireing harness's isnt hard either, the hardest part is getting the thick end through the gromet in the firewall again....
i would swap a 6, but theres alot more potential i think for a 4cyl then a v6.... + i would only swap a KLZE, and i dont have that much time :p

ummm.. If I had that kind of money I would have bought a DeLorean, all of which are older than meNd4SpdSe wrote:If you had that kind of money, you wouldn't of bought a 13 year old car, I know I wouldn't.
But yes. If I had had tons of money before I got my Mx, I would have laughed at anyone who tried to sell me one.
