motor mount/ rotor question

Post by markbrad »

My brother-in-law has been doing some work on the car., 94 1.6L auto. He says the donut hole on the motor mount I bought is off 1/2". The old one is in good shape. Could the original have "sagged" that much or is it the wrong one? The other two mounts have been replaced, the rear one was broken. Do you twist the motor to get the new one on?
This is the link for the "problem" mount.

It looks as though the mount fits a number of different vehicles.

The distributor rotor I bought is incorrect. Some of the parts store make reference to different size shafts OR (DISTRIBUTOR?) serial numbers OR date of vehicle manufacture. Is there anyway to get the correct rotor short of taking the old part with me? The car is thirty miles away now.

Not sure about the motor mount question.. but.. as for the distributor rotor.. when I buy mine.. they ask me for the date of manufacture. This is located on a sticker just inside your drivers door near the door latch. Apparently they changed the engine in mid stream 93.. so late builds in 93 were DOHC engines.. and the distributor is different. Early builds in 93 were SOHC engines. You can have a build date prior to the year your car is. My car was sold as a 1994 model year.. but it has a build date of 11/93. Hope this helps.

I got a similar mount from http:stopshopanddrive.com - it was little bit off (but not 1/2"). If you didnt support the engine at multiple points while taking it off - then there is a possibility that the engine might have twisted a bit after you removed the mount.

For the rotor - there are 2 types for 94. Usually stores ask me for last 6 digits of the VIN number. It is called the serial number (S/N).

Rockauto has both parts - just match your number and you will probably get the right part ....

He did go to a with the car info to a local parts store and came back with
http://www.rockauto.com/ref/SMP/SMPDeta ... ?JR160.jpg
He said the part was stamped T239 like the picture.
My VIN is in the lower than serial number category and that part should work.
But he says the rotor is a loose fit on the shaft?

I did get the parts originally from Rockauto ordering the Bosch distributor cap and then a Bosch rotor to go with it. Now I know better.

Most of the times stores misplace or mislabel stuff like that. It happened to me too - i got the correct part no and everything but it was to small to fit in my disty. I went back to the store and sure enough somebody had actually put the wrong part in the wrong box. To confuse things further both types looked similar and had the same part number. The only difference was the inside diameter. I got a bunch of those and replaced mine with one that fits and returned the rest.

Well, we ended up replacing just the two lower motor mounts. The passenger side upper looked good. The "extra" one along with the two used ones are available if you need one. The lower rear mount was gone but I still have a rough idle in drive. I did find one cracked vacuum line and replaced that and will check the others.

A GP Sorensen #23-5185 rotor from Advance Auto finally fit the shaft correctly. I have still not found a distributor cap to fit. Most parts stores list the same cap for early (like mine) VIN or production date or later versions. NAPA is going to order one and if that doesn't work then the next stop is the dealer.
