What else I need for the swap?
What else I need for the swap?
Hi guys,
I searched all over the site and pertty much understand what I might need, I also got two places where i want to get the things for my swap, I just want to ask what else I need. Just running wise, not performance, thats a little later on.
So here is the two places:
1/ http://www.naganojapanese.com/jdm_kf.html
» Jdm motor, ECU
» Distributor
» Complete Intake Manifold
» A/C Power streering Pump
2/ http://www.japanmotorimport.com/invento ... ngineID=28
Engine (Block and Head)
Intake Manifold
Exhaust Manifold
Distributor
Alternator
A/C Compressor
Power Steering Pump
They are all the same price, I guess the second one is better cause it just have alot more things.
But is there anything I am missing that I need for the swap?
Thanks in Advance

get the first one because it comes with the ecu. make sure that ecu says kl31 or kl36 on it. those ecu's cost $300 to $400 on their own.

Generally, you want to put an O2 sensor in the O2 bung hole (not your own bung hole).kevio180 wrote:Cool cool, thanks
One more thing, I read somthing about using K8 exhust to get ride of the check engine light O2 sensor. Is that true?
Or to buy an after market header and exhust. If I go with after market headers, where is the O2 Sensor attached to?
thanks

Firstly for your O2's. You need to retain the capability to use O2's with the ZE. The ECU needs that info produced. I believe almost all after market headers for the MX comes with the O2 bungs.kevio180 wrote:Cool cool, thanks

If your referring to doing your research from previous posts, then you may still be at a disadvantage because based on your original Q's. The reason being is that if you go to the main WWWMX-3.com page, contained within are various testimonials for engine swaps. As well, Luc St.Pierre (AKA SRD) has some informative swap info that would be an asset. Without getting into greater detail (because it's best to read the circumstances surrounding each detail) there are things that deal with importing items from the K8 to the ZE, like coolant filler neck assembly, disty etc. Tip - keep the old K8 handy after the swap. Those are the things that you will find out in the swap testimonials.

what you're thinking of is using the k8 intake manifold to get rid of the check engine.....but i would not recommend that at all. doesn't give the full potential of the engine.kevio180 wrote:Cool cool, thanks

the ZE manifold does cause the light to come on cuz u can't hook something up...but if you also use the ZE ECU (KL31 or KL36), it goes out again since it doesn't support it. however in the future if you need to check engine codes, its a different method.
i would also actually suggest getting an aftermarket clutch...its technically a performance upgrade, but if you keep u'r current one or replace with OEM (like i did), you'll just have to change it again within 6mo. a proper aftermarket mx6 clutch will b able to handle the new power you'll b producing and u won't have to worry about it for alot longer.
one more thing....make sure the throttle cable isn't loose, i think the ZE cable is longer....u'll b able to feel it in the pedel, and when u floor it, the throttle won't b 100% open. pm me if u need details in how i tightened mine.
