A Few problems (idle)

Post by jbruynson »

This has only really been happening during the colder months of the year, but when I first start up the car it will idle at around 1.5k. From there is slowly goes up to 2k, after about 5 min it will be just over 2k then shoots right up to 3k. From there it will either rev itself from about 2.3-3k nonstop,(Annoying as hell, all I wanna do is let my car warmup in the mornings), or it will sit there and idle at 3k. I do have exhaust so its not exactly quiet at 6am...
I can't let my car heat up because its just too damn loud. If I start driving it'll be fine, but as soon as I stop at a red light(clutch in, or in neutral) it shoots right back up to 3k, I get wierd looks all the time...

Now after about 5-10 min of driving everything goes right back to normal, no idle issues.

Any ideas?

2nd small issue- after I installed indiglo gauges my temp gauge doesn't work. As soon as the car starts warming up, the needle just keeps rising, to well past where it should ever even go.

Check for any coolant leaks. My car did that last winter then I found that my coolant level was very low due to a faulty/leaking water pump. Also check for any intake air leaks and/or vacuum leaks.

There are plenty of threads that deal with this situation already on this site. Simply do a search for more information.
